Tournament list finalisation

By GodlessMimicry, in X-Wing

Hi guys,

Have a tournament tomorrow and am having trouble on finalizing my list. I am stuck between two very similar lists, and have been flying a similar list successfully. It is really an exercise to the age-old X-Wing dilemma of more ships or more upgrades really. But to give you the two lists, here they are:

Good Hunting

T/I - Soontir Fel - PTL, Royal Guard, Stealth Device, Shield Upgrade

FS31 - Bounty Hunter - Tactician, Slave 1, Flechette Torpedoes

T/F - Obsidian Squadron

T/F - Obsidian Squadron

T/I - Soontir Fel - PTL

FS31 - Bounty Hunter

T/F - Obsidian Squadron

T/F - Academy Pilot

T/F - Academy Pilot

Admittedly the first list has a few 'wasted points' as when you have a high single digit number of points left over, it is often tough to figure out what to do with them. What I like about the first list however is that Soontir is a little more forgiving to mistakes and also having 75% of the list at the same PS opens up a lot of doors tactically. Tactician has proven very useful also.

The second list however has more ships. It has a diluted sense of the same PS advantage, however everything is almost bare bones so a little less forgiving. It would have a better chance against a Falcon list however I reckon, and I know there will be one Han/B/B list there.

I am open to suggestions on list 1 also, as the Slave 1/Flechettes were just place holders for the last 2pts. Not really pushed on initiative as Soontir wants to move last.

Could really use some good discussion on this. Thanks in advance guys.

i like ur top list but i might consider switching the stealth device for a hull upgrade.

have u considered running intel agent on BH? ud need to drop an obsidian to an academy but IA allows u to peak at a ships dial and barrel roll ur ties into block it or barrel roll out of its arc or make an informed decision for evade/focus on that ship - not bad for one point.

You could run

Fel-PTL

Krassis+HLC

2 Obsidian Squadron Pilots

Fel is squishier and you lose the stress option, but a 4 Dice attack + a reroll is great for taking out high shield ships like Large Bases and B-wings (and denies the range 3 defense die as well)

That leaves 1 point for an Intel agent, bumping an obsidian up to a Black Squadron, or Initiative. Remember winning the bid does NOT force you into having initiative it gives you the choice of who has it, you can just as easily pass it to your opponent and make him move 1st

I'd go with the first list, but seriously consider dropping the Tactician and Torpedoes for a Recon Specialist. It makes a big deal in your survivability, and you'll want to reinforce that tank as a contrast with Soontir.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. Brown, the problem with adding Intelligence Agent to the first list isn't just the points; the Firespray already has a crew on board and can only have one. And I am expecting a few PS1-2 heavy lists at this thing so not sure going at it on a PS3 build would help. It is a nice idea though that I have not thought of before and will be trying in the future.

Gundog, while I like Krassis, I think I genuinely like the options of the pilots all being the same lower skill a bit more. It is a decent list however and I will consider it.

Sword, I came to a similar realization last night myself, partly because I was never happy with the torps. in the first place, and partly because I realized that I don't have the card for them anyhow :P I also considered Rebel Captive on him. What do you think?

rebel captive is a fine fine choice.

so is tactician, really using those double arcs well.

change stealth to hull, drop shield altogether. dodge arcs and fly better.

I really think Stealth is better than Hull on Soontir. With his action stacking, he can make the most out of those 4 dice. He is all but guaranteed to have a Focus to use in there, and can get an Evade while still getting another action. If absolutely necessary he can end up with two Focus and an Evade for super defense. Unfortunately sometimes you just can't get out of arc, and I am definitely not the best flyer at this event.

never trust green dice.

(one liners aside, if stealth has been working for you, awesome! it sounds theoretically sound. )

never trust green dice.

This is true also.

Rebel Captive and Recon Specialist are both great cards. If you're concerned about facing Phantoms, I'd go with the Captive; against Falcons, I'd prefer the Specialist.

So went with the first list except with Recon on the Firespray. Went 2-0 and came 3rd. Beat Falcon list and a TIE Swarm, and only just lost to a list very similar to the recent Gencon winner in the last round. Needed to do one more damage to Soontir to win but the dice betrayed me a few times.
