I am getting into X-wing just barely and I am lost on what to store my ships tokens and such in. I don't have the money for battle foam. Is there a cheep model of tackle box or something I could get from say home depot that would do? Something that wont damage my Miniatures? Amy advice or examples would be great. Thanks
Best and cheapest way to store and carry all your x-wing stuff
Pants pockets
Plano cases. There are many of varying sizes, depending on how much you think you''ll be getting into the game.
Best? Tackle boxes/art supply bins.
Cheapest? Ziplock bags and a cardboard box.
The cheapest. ?. Is a paper bag.
My cheapest method ... is to hang around friends who buy lots of pluck foam, and when they're throwing out a bunch of the plucked foam, I go, "Hey, don't trash that! I can glue those pieces down to some foam-core and make a tray for my minis!" And thus I end up with bags full of foam squares to glue down to the aforementioned scrap foam-core board, or else whatever cardboard is at hand, dimensions largely determined by the size of whatever cheap storage bin I have available. (And that's actually what I've been doing this week to organize my X-Wing custom projects.

Pants pockets
can only fit 4 ships each pocket no room for range ruler and people might take a ruler in my pants pocket the wrong way

Get the biggest one you can get. You're gonna need it. I started with one, then added another, now I have battle foam Mole 432 pack for just the ships. Now with have 6 I'm going to need more foam.

This is best. You have my entire play group's recommendation.
fits everything perfectly, plus the plastic cutouts from the original packaging PLUS extra room on the sides to store the corresponding dials and baseplates so you never have ot look through a big stack. lambda and dials fit perfectly also. Falcon fits slightly cramped. top layer perfect length for range ruler and templates
Plan for growth, just go straight to the U-Haul.
Okay, a serious answer:
I plan to be playing this game for a long time, and I'll be picking up at least 1 or 2 of everything that's released for it. I want a lot of options.
I also recommend the Plano 5231. It's great for taking to game nights or tournaments. You can store most ships pre-assembled and have them ready to set up right away. There are plenty of little compartments in the little top tray for all of the necessary tokens (so far), and plenty of room inside for a pre-built swarm, the cards you need for them, a couple of large ships, large bomb tokens, asteroids and laser pointer. I use this box when I want to travel light.
I've found that the Plano 1374 is a nice all-purpose tackle box for a growing X-Wing collection. I use one of the removable organizer trays (model 3750) to store all of my ship cards and upgrades, and the other three trays (also 3750) hold ship tokens, maneuver dials, bases and pegs -- one tray per faction. I can leave this box at home, but I usually bring it along if I don't know what sort of missions we'll be playing ahead of time.
I'm not a fan of battlefoam at all. I think it just gets impractical and outdated with each wave. I keep my ships in their original plastic blisters with their original plastic covers, cut down to the smallest size possible, rubber-banded to hold them together. I group my ships into sandwich-size ziplock bags and store them all in the top compartment of my 1374. This makes them easy to find and there's virtually no chance they'll get damaged.

Get this one, it works great:
Right now I have a double sided one and a regular one, ill pry need to go boot double sided with scum and villainy.
tackle box
If you don't like the tackle box idea for the minis, I use the plano pistol case and cut out areas for my minis. tokens go in a small, cheap tackle box.

LOL! I never noticed that on those items it now shows "Customers who bought this item also bought X-wing miniatures." Hilarious!
I have a pretty big tackle box, but I also have this little guy to pull tokens from during my games. It's really convenient.

It's double-sided, and really handy for numbers and target locks.
Edited by ParakitorI saw that when I ordered my 1374. I wonder if people buying it for its intended purpose look at that and go "what the hell is an x-wing miniature?"
I also recommend the Plano 5231 for a beginning collection. It will hold roughly 20 or so ships comfortably, depending on the ships.
However, with my recent purchase of a handful of Z-95s and my birthday in a week, I have officially outgrown my Plano 5231. Then, last night, I found this at Home Depot:

It comes in a 2-pack for only $10- about the same price as the Plano 5231, but with more storage space. The front half of each case has fixed dividers, but the back half has removable dividers for storing large ships, range rulers, and etc. Like Parakitor, I also grabbed a small tackle box for like $1.50 at the same time I got the HDX cases to store my tokens, and it fits neatly in that back section.
The cases lock together very securely, and can be stacked indefinitely which allows for plenty of room for expanding. Once Scum and Villainy is in my hands I plan on picking up another 2-pack and using 1 case per faction, leaving me with one case leftover for whatever.
I highly recommend these- I was very happy to stumble across them. I would recommend like Dagobah Dave said, hanging on to your plastic packaging for the ships. They should easily fit into the compartments in this case.

My 2 pesos...
I've been a miniatures gamer for about twenty years, so I've had a lot of different transport and storage solutions over the years. I tend to be a tight-wad when it comes to accessories like this so I usually use salvaged materials and "good enough" solutions.
My x-wing stuff is currently stored/transported thus:
- I keep the ships in their original blisters, it protects them and isn't a lot bigger than the ships themselves (imperial aces excluded).
- for ghetto box control, I've kept the ziplock baggies from all my expansion packs and store my upgrade cards in them so my Astromechs are in a different bag from my Proton Torpedoes and so forth.
- Until recently I was able to store my imperial and rebel fleets, and all the cards/templates, inside the two starter boxes I began my collection with. One box has all the original packaging, the other just has ship blisters inside.
- once I got the Falcon and Slave-1 I moved it all into a metal-look briefcase (like a tool-box type of thing), which holds everything.
- also I have a case (similar to the Plano) for all my game tokens, dice and ship bases. This fits in my briefcase also.
It's not a perfect solution, but it's pretty good and cost me nothing (I dug both the carry-cases out of hard-rubbish). I'll probably invest in some Battlefoam trays soon (now that I've found an Australian distributor), but I'll still stack them in my toolbox/briefcase.
I use a giant blue cardboard box and use the plastic cases from the large models and aces to hold the models and the tokens in the seperate plastic bins. If you are in a fix for money it is a cheap way to go. Weather can be an issue though.
Free tackle box my father in law believes he gave me to hold lures.
