Jan Ors based squad

By Schmarbs523, in X-Wing

So I've been contemplating a new squad build today based around a HWK 290 piloted by Jan Ors. This may be a squad that's been done before so I'm not claiming some novel idea or anything, just with the current meta I'm trying to figure out a way to control Phantoms. With that said, I've thought about giving Jan an ion cannon turret, VI, recon specialist, and Moldy Crow title. My main question is if I do manage to land an ion hit on a Phantom while uncloaked (the point of tossing VI on her), what happens to the Phantom? Can the Phantom still recloak using advanced cloaking device assuming it hits whatever it's shooting at? And if so, is it allowed to decloak next turn? My apologies if these questions have been asked before but I'm at work and the forum isn't the most iPhone friendly.

An Ion token does not prevent a ship from taking an action. So if the phantom has Advanced Cloaking Device and performs an attack, even if it misses, the phantom may perform a cloak action provided that it didn't perform a cloak action earlier in the round.

As for decloaking, that occurs during the before reveal maneuver dial step of the activation phase. Since a maneuver dial is never set, the phantom cannot decloak that turn.

Thanks for the clarification. Clearly I'm not too familiar with ion cannons as they are nonexistent in the meta where I play. And sorry, realized that I got Whisper's hit dependent ability mixed up with ACD. As an additional question, do y'all think Jan Ors is a better option with the ability to hand out an attack dice? Or maybe Roark and give another ship the ability to shoot first no matter what?

An ioned phantom cannot decloak, as ioned ships do not reveal a maneuver dial. They do, however, have a chance to cloak, as ioned ships can perform actions.

A stressed Phantom, on the other hand, can decloak, but not cloak.

A stressed/ioned Phantom? That's an Imperial player having a bad day.

Honestly shooting at pilot skill 12 is nice with roars ability but phantoms can only shoot at a max of pilot skill 10 so any pilot skill 9 ship with veteran instincts (only 1 pt) will shoot first. Most run echo and his max is 8 so you can either go for an initiative bid or simply shoot pilot skill 9 (Han Solo). Also a blaster turret would be better in this instance if you do decide to use a hwk if your taking recon spec and moldy crow, you'll roll the same amount of dice but those dice will hurt a lot more. Just my 2 cents. I'm thinking of actually using a naked Han Solo with jan ors piloting the hawk with recon spec, moldy crow and blaster turret along with lt Blount equipped with wingman to clear Jan's stress. Focus her early to build up a bank of focuses to use and then go to town.

I'm considering a squad with Jan Ors as crew in either a HWK or B wing (post rebel aces) to allow an elite synchonising fighter team to play evades and have tons of focus options.

Thinking Garven Dreis and Wedge, R2 D2 on wedge with a shield upgrade keeps him from being too easy to kill

Dreis hands off focus tokens

Jan stocks them and converts them to evades when needed

Got to play it out but i think in theory its sound.

I was in a tourney that I came in third I flew:

Roark, Moldy Crow, Blaster, recon

Hobbie with (that stress causing droid)

Blue with FCS and Ion cannon

Tala with concussion missiles

The winner flew a similar list, but I believe he only had an ion turret on roark, no ion on th B and beefed up his other ships.

I never got to play him in the tourney, it was a shame as I would have liked to see how that would have played out.

Jan is hard. If you give her an Ion Turret and Nien Numb (requirements in my book) you end up 3x 21 Pt ships

I am now starting to think of using her with either a mini swarm of headhunters or two decent Xs/Bs with a headhunter in escort.

My thought process on this list is to ion a Phantom so I know where it'll be the next turn then let my Blue Squadron B-wings with HLC and FCS blast it with TL and Focus. The build would require very good positioning on the B-wings in order to get a shot the previous turn but if I can get it right I think it could work very well.

I got killed awhile back on vassal against this 4 ship Jan build. Partly my fault for some mistakes but it's definitely a strong build.

Jan + Ion + Swarm + Nien Numb

Cracken + Swarm

Biggs

Rookie

All shoot at PS8, Rookie gets second action from cracken and extra dice for jan for a likely 4 hit attack. Biggs means you can't get rid of jan or cracken first.

Figured I'd make a post with a simple BatRep from tonight's tourney with this list. Three matches played total.

First match was against a Soontir Fel, Royal Guard Pilot, Krassis Trelix list. Unfortunately the player flying the list hadn't been playing for very long so I outmaneuvered him though he rolled like a champ most of the match. I one shot his RGP with my HLC B-wings in the first combat round. Krassis fell shortly thereafter primarily due to a poorly timed K turn. It took me a while to take out Soontir but I eventually ioned him and took him out very quickly after that.

Second match was against a tricked out Jan Ors with a tricked out Han Solo. This match proved tougher but once the B-wings were in range of Jan the HLCs made short work of her while my own Jan Ors constantly ioned the Falcon. This list came down to my two B-wings against my opponent's remaining Falcon. It was close but the list prevailed.

Last up was a list consisting of Colonel Vessery, Rexler Brath, and Night Beast. The opening volley of this match caused one B-wing to decrease to one or two hull and I believe I one shot Vessery with my B-wings. The low H&P B-wing was then eliminated quickly. The ion cannon then begin to work ioning Rexler, and then after he had been dealt with it was just a matter of time for Night Beast who I had on repeat ionization.

As a whole I think this list was a success. Jan's ability to add an attack dice to HLC is deadly, especially when TL'd and focused. This list will likely see a lot of play from me.
