Choose one game

By Torresse, in X-Wing

So I have been playing Xwing and the starwars LCG since they both were released. Im also a huge collector.

So during regionals this year, I was forced to make a decision, Xwing or the starwars LCG.

They both fell on the same day, and one was at my local store. I choose Xwing, and lost my chance to play for the exclusives. Because of this, I have almost completely dropped the LCG (I have a great collection for trade btw)

So now I have 3 games that are probable going to have a regional/nationals that I am going to have to choose from.

Armada: while this game looks fun, I dont see this game stealing my time for Xwing, so Im not too concerned with this. If I can fit the time in, I will play it at nationals, if not, its not a big deal

Imperial assault: depending on how well balanced this game is (and if I feel that I can outplay myh opponent) I may choose to devote my time to collecting this as a main.

If I goto Nationals, my plan is to play both Imperial assault, and Xwing, qualify for both, then attempt the championship of whatever game I feel better at/has better prizes.

If I have to choose between two different regional events, I am going to write a hate letter to ffg (then apologize to them)

Does anyone else have this fear?

Well, at least you aren't looking at Worlds. The choice was already tough for those that played their existing games last year. I feel for those that will have to choose between 4 different Star Wars games in 2015.

can't say i do.

I play xwing as its quick, easy, i have little painting that *needs* doing and i can be competetive (if i want to be) playing new stuff with x wings and y wings....

I dont fancy armada, looks ok but i have BFG for fleet actions

Likewise i have so much rogue trader era 40k i play with regularly i wouldnt need or want another roleplayeque gorund combat or battle ground combat game.

all the other games look cool but for the mo i'm strictly into xwing

The only reason i let myself get sucked into a new game was because i knew it didnt need painting and i primarily play with likeminded friends who are mainly into OT ships and dont feel the need to 'arms race'.

Tough call for yourself though.

in these situation my wife says 'toss a coin', if you dont like the result of the toin coss then you know what you *really* wanted to do.

Do you think Imperial Assault with have competitive play? It seems more like a board game with added in skirmish bits.

Do they have Descent regionals?

I was wondering the same thing about Armada. I think a tournament with 2+ hours rounds would become very boring and tedious. Of course I come from a cards background so I could be wrong for miniatures.

They said both Imperial Assault and Armada are going to have Regionals et al.

Its about standard for a GW 40k or fantasy tourny.

You play three games on the Saturday (then pub quiz), two on the Sunday. well thats how it used to be.

I think games were max two hours each.

Imperial Assault has both a "Descent"-like campaign mode, AND a two player skirmish mode, where you assemble a squad and fight.

They did say in interviews coming out of Gencon that it would have full OP support, including structured torunaments.

I think it was in the TC interview with Steve Horvath.

X-Wing. While granted I don't play tournaments for either, I have a significant investment in X-Wing versus little spent in others. Imperial Assault holds little to no interest for me personally, and while Armada looks neat and I might get the core set just to try out and to have, I don't intend to go full bore at it as I have with X-Wing.

YMMV though.

PS: Star Wars LCG is fun, but it doesn't hold a candle to the fun and excitement of X-Wing. It's a good travel game though which is primarily what I use it for.
