Gain Force Rating?

By Ebak, in General Discussion

I was just looking through the book and I cannot see any reference to buying into the Force and Destiny trees with existing characters.

Previous books had it so that you gained Force Rating 1 when you purchased into said trees. Is that the same when you buy into a F&D specialisation or do you have to work down to dedication to get your force dice? I ask this because although it reflects training...it kind of makes the force powers in the tree a bit worthless immediately don't you think?

It's mentioned somewhere, I'll have to get the page reference later, but it says that in order to use the new force talents in a new spec tree on a character with a EotE/AoR career, you'll have to get the FS Exile or FS Emergent tree for it's force rating 1. I also can't remember whether it says you have to have FR1 prior to buying that tree or not, because if not, it would make sense that you could skip FSE and dive for the FR+1 talents in your chosen specialization

I believe the career grants the force rating and the specialization does not. Might have to check the first paragraph or two of each career.

"Force Rating" are Force Talents and can´t be chosen w/out a Forcerating

Well, that answers the second part of my uncertainty. I'm nearly positive that the part I'm referencing is in a break-out box somewhere either before or after the career pages, probably either in "Spending Experience" or the preface pages to the careers themselves. I'm at work and don't have my book, so I can't be sure until I get home later.

There is a specific list of specializations which include +1 force rating. I can't remember off the top of my head the entire list but I do remember that the Consular/Sage has +1 FR twice. I think most of the others which include FR have only one and appears to be non-combat specializations.

I know that most have a talent of +1 force rating that you can work towards. I'm talking about Spects similar to the Force Sensitive Exile and Emergent where it states that taking that spec gives you Force Rating 1 (if you don't have a Force rating already).

For beginner characters, whatever career you choose gives you a force rating.

For existing characters that are not force sensitive can't take any trees in the FaD book. Or, you can, but it wouldn't make sense. On page 194 of the beta, under "Becoming Force Sensitive," it states that if you want your existing character from EotE or AoR to be force sensitive, you need to buy the exile or emergent tree, respectively.

So take one of those trees, get your rating, then buy one of the specs from the FaD book. From there, make your way down the tree to up your force rating.

There we go, there's the page reference for what I was talking about

Funny fact: the cheapest way to get Force Rating 2 is with the Artisan tree, where you can get it for 60XP. There's another one at 70XP, and the rest is 75XP+.

The consensus from the monstrosity of a thread was that you could still buy the FaD specializations - even the Force-user talents - but could not use said talents until and unless you picked up Exile or Emergent.

Looks to me like it's 70 in the Artisan tree. The Seer can get it for 60, and the Pathfinder 65.

Another thing to note: Specializations with 2 Force Rating talents do not have a Dedication talent.

Emergent has it for 75, is you want to take a step back for the sake of an FR.

Let me see if I have this right:

-FSEx and FSEm both give a Force rating. You can buy it up to 2, once in each tree.

-Having FSEx or FSEm then buying the other does NOT grant another Force die. If you maxed both you'd have a Force rating of 3.

-If you take a Career from F&D you get a Force die.

If you take a non-Force using career then later buy into a F&D spec, you do NOT get a Force die.

All good?

Correct.

Given that spec also has two ranks of Toughened and Grit, it's a worthwhile investment for a F&D character that started with a Lightsaber Form and wouldn't mind a few tricks to help keep a low profile on the side.

Not disagreeing, just that there are cheap ways to run FR up quickly if one chooses. I think Exile is even better even though it costs more, FR and a rank of Range/Melee Defense.

Both give you a FR of 1, and each has one iteration of the FR +1 talent, so each alone will give you a max of FR 2.

-Having FSEx or FSEm then buying the other does NOT grant another Force die. If you maxed both you'd have a Force rating of 3.

Yes, max of FR 3. Both specializations grant FR 1, they do not increase your FR by 1.

-If you take a Career from F&D you get a Force die.

F&D Careers give you a FR of 1, yes.

If you take a non-Force using career then later buy into a F&D spec, you do NOT get a Force die.

All good?

No Force rating is gained from a F&D specialization , correct.

A non-Force using character can buy into the F&D careers, but will not gain a Force Rating, and therefore cannot use the Force Talents – though they can buy them.
