Well sith does not mean dark force user they were a race of aliens taken over by dark Jedi, although alot of Sith had force sensitivity not all did so Sith could refer to his genetic roots rather than his ability with the force.
a race that the jedi persecuted to extinction...

Well they thought they had at least, being a dark Jedi is different from being Sith.
I have to say I never got this. A very long time ago I thumbed through a book about the Death Star and the thing was carrying something like 4,000 TIE Fighters. It's a good thing the Rebels blew up the thing because I'm pretty sure Tarkin would have been force-choked and electrocuted for being so stupid.
Throw too many incredibly fast moving spaceships in one place and they all hit each other. He didn't actually make a tactical error, so much as the engineers made an error. I mean really, 3 rebel pilots made it out, and they all would have been dead or withdrawn seconds after the deathstar fired if it hadn't been for Han's intervention.
So he's still at fault for not using a few of those 4000 tie fighters to mount a continuous combat air patrol around the Death Star to prevent that sort of thing from happening. Seriously, how did the Falcon even get close?
Though apparently the Inquisitor isn't a sith?
That shouldn't be a prob, the grand inquisitor was a jedi / Dark jedi =]
i sometimes got the feeling that 'sith' was a cool word Lucas came up with an used early on and then couldnt really decide which way to run with it.
At times there are loads, then at times there is just a master and apprentice depending on what you're watching or reading, or so its seemed at times.
Its just the evolution of the force structure for the sith =]
Just an example the Emperor altered the Sith structure so that only two sith lords could exist but reg sith could. He has a legion of Sith wizards all constructed with Star Killers dna, as we'll as other dark side lifeforms. He had armies of dark jedi, inqusitors, sith witches, darkside witches, emperors hands, eyes, ears, and dark side using elite troops, like the light saber lance using shadow guard, or the most elite storm commando unit that most imps don't realise are undead and use darkside spirits while on a mission.
All are kept in check by the inquisators and Vader. The hands don't really need much checking because they all know if the Emperor dies all ofthem will lose all the powers he has given him.
its a pretty perilous system to build a galaxy dominating empire on... i mean doesnt give you too much of a contingency if your 'master' has a car/spaceship crash or a heart attack and dies the day you're taken on
Three things, sith holocrons, sith spirits, possession. ;-)
Some of the artwork made base on hell and sith spirits are prety **** well dark, it could be in a poltergiest movie. I remember some kids dad writing sw insider and complaining about put such dark pictuers in one of there mags. He was going to cut the stuff out of the mag or stop buying them.
This seems like the perfect thread to address another glaring issue with that battle, and what led up to it. The Imperials know that a set of plans were stolen, even a General states "If the Rebels have obtained a complete technical readout of this station it is possible, however unlikely, that they might find a weakness, and exploit it." How in the hell did the Empire not scour those plans themselves to determine any possible weaknesses??? It seems logical to me; if I'm Vader or Tarkin and I learn of the stolen plans... my engineers are combing those plans thoroughly to ensure we didn't miss something, say a thermal exhaust port which leads directly to the reactor and I don't know, shield it somehow...
I know they had some towers, turbo lasers and such... however if that was my achilles heel, you'd be **** sure I'd have that port covered from all angles.

How often do you see Jets patrolling? Fuel is expensive. There are a number of tactical issues to using that many ships continuously. That's what Sensors and sending an appropriate response force are for. Nobody was checking the long range sensors for the falcon, they were sitting back watching some rebels get dusted by the empires finest. Which is dumb, but the Deathstar was an atrogant project. That's the whole idea. Arrogance killed thr death star.
Incorrect, 30 Rebel Fighters, 8 Y-wings (based off the SBD-Dauntless dive bomber most famous for its role in Midway), 2 R22 Spearheads (A-wing prototype/precursor), and 20 X-wings. Unknown amount of Imperial Fighters, except for a minimum of 8 Ties + Vader. Just literizing the illiterate ![]()

Acutally Aminar, more than 3 Rebs made it out (more like 6 or 7), but only 3 made it out of the Trench assault, another group (Blue and Green Squadrons) was sent on a diversionary assault on the superlaser. BTW those 3 for anyone interested are: Luke, Wedge, and Keyan Farlander (from the Video game X-wing)
well thats the 'legend' anyway ![]()
Who really gives a crap about what Disney says is canon and isn't. Until Disney makes a movie that is EXTREMELY well done Star Wars movie, Legends IS canon. ![]()

The Emperor knew and aproved of this design flaw, I posted the reason in a bit more detail
above ;-)

Only Black Squadron was used. The kd ratio for the imps vs rebs was high, although only two Black Squadron members servived.
well thats the 'legend' anyway
Going by what one of the current writer of sw rebs said everything posted here is disneywars canon too, except my one refrence from dark empire, that might be just a legend now. ![]()
There is no way there were a million Imperial soldiers and other personnel killed on the Death Star when it blew up. No way, unless it was designed by morons. To arrive at this conclusions, you must ask a few basic questions like what was the purpose of the Death Star? It was, at it's core, a mobile giant gun. To power a gun of this magnitude you had to have an enormous reactor to generate sufficient power to fire the gun. As seen in Return of the Jedi (RotJ), the Death Star is mostly hollow with the reactor in the center and lots of piping to dissipate the heat from the reactor when the big gun fires. At least that is what I assume the piping is for. It has to be a big heat exchanger, right?
Now, you are already building this giant superstructure to house a giant gun and associated reactor, propulsion systems, and staff housing. Why not incorporate a military base into it to protect it from possible hostile takeover? If you just have the staff to run what is, essentially, a big power plant (you would be surprised at how few people it takes to run a power plant) it would be easy for the Rebels to land a force and take over the Death Star and hijack it. Then you have a PR nightmare and Vader force-chokes you and your family. So you put a military base on the Death Star to provide security and operate a fighter wing just in case anybody gets any bright ideas. You can always call in the fleet if things get hairy, but the main gun can vaporize a capital-sized ship in one shot, so it can defend itself fairly well. You don't make the thing the hub of your military. That would be stupid. It is not there to provide surprise attacks because, from what I gathered from the movies, the Death Stars were really slow. It's purpose was to instill fear by granting the Empire the ability to blow up a planet.
Also, I think a major misconception is that Luke's torpedoes actually blew up the Death Star. It is much much more likely that his torpedoes merely disabled the reactor cooling system while the reactor was at peak power production, causing a meltdown, thereby destroying the Death Star. If this was done while the Death Star was merely floating around, it would have been disabled, not destroyed.
Edited by Darth ChuckCheck out Star Wars Revisited.
The battle is more populated .. and chewy gets a medal.
There is debate whether it is a good version of SW. I liked a lot of what fella did. Not everything ... but a lot.

The DS2 wasnt finished though, thats why it was so empty. It was also meant to be a giant troop transport / fleet carrier for taking over places that the Empire didnt want destroyed.
Chuck, 1 The DS1 is 210 KM, I think it can fit 1 mil people on it. DS2 was over 600 Km.
2. Lukes Torpedoes hit the reactor itself, causing a chain-reaction to blow it up. They did the same with DS2.
