Your first game of Star Wars: Armada

By Papa Midnight, in Star Wars: Armada

What are you looking forward to when you play your first game?

The terrain pieces and the actual game board?

The miniatures and accompanying tokens?

The game's dice and effects?

The overall rules for Armada?

A combinations of all and more of the above?

Your need to squash some "rebel scum?" :D

???

The models, the upgrade cards and combining them to make a fleet that will crush the rebellion.

What I'm most looking forward to is moving my VSDs and making phew phew noises :D

All of it! :D

I'm looking forward to blasting the Imperial March while moving my imperial ships.

Mostly that I'll have time to actually read all the rules and understand how the game works.

Next is destroying a symbol of Imperial Oppression, as I work to once restore the Rightful government of the Galactic Republic.

(Actually I play both sides, even if I do prefer Reb's. But there's too much Imperial propaganda in this thread.)

Remember... Join the Light Side, they may have cookies, but we have shields.

The Experience. Being behind the helm of a VSD, considering my fighters, and coming up with a plan to crush the rebel scum.

All with the most beautiful miniatures in the galaxy and the best engine system at my fingertips.

I await to wipe out the rebel fleet

...We're going to see so much more Empire fleets in this game, aren't we?

... as long as there are rebels to shoot at, im fine with that.

Depends on how many people are willing to play mirror matches vs those willing to take the other side to avoid that.

If X-Wing is anything to go buy, most people seem to fly both factions, and there's plenty of rebel players, they just aren't as vocal as the Imp's seem to be.

I am a huge fan of the rebels and I love their ships. That being said, I LOVE imperial ships. Every time I play Star Wars Empire at War I am always running the imperials. It's just awesome moving around the Star Destroyers.

Uhhhhhhh, both of you surely cant comprehend the power of the Light side.

Besides, you do know that the Empire was utterly crushed by the Rebel Alliance, correct?

:D

Power of the light side? Ok, feel free to come at me with your tiny corvettes and snap-apart Nebulon-Bs. Just realize if you ever stop in front of me, you're dead. The only thing I'm really worried about are your starfighters, but I have more than enough TIEs to keep them busy until I've killed your capital ships.

In all seriousness I'd be willing to play both factions. Imperial star Destroyers (heck, Imperial equipment in general) are some of my favorite space vehicles in science fiction but when playing as the rebels, it's interesting to try out-thinking the greatest force in the galaxy. Empire is about applying shock and awe successfully while the rebellion is about being clever with the meager forces you're given.

Bah! Rebel propaganda! We won't fall for those sad lies. Next you'll be telling me that Tarkin is dead or some other nonsense.

And oh so clever are the Rebels.... they win all of the 'decisive' battles. :P

I've watched all of the films!!!

Getting to command a fleet in Star Wars face to face with my opponent rather then through computer screens. I liked Wizards of the Coast's Starship Battles mini game but this will be much, much better.

I'm the opposite. I still play through Galactic Conquest on Empire At War, or EAW: Forces of Corruption two or three times a month but I usually play the Rebels with Zann Consortium in distant second, and the Empire in third though I do play through all of the single player campaigns at least once a year

I prefer capital ships in the small or small end of medium categories to the big ones so the Rebel ships in the first wave are pretty much made for me. Given the choice between either 1 big capital ship, and 2 or 3 smaller ones I'll take the pair or trio about 90 percent of the time.

To use an EAW example I have several mixes I use for my main Alliance offensive fleets. They all have one MC80, two or three Assault Frigate Mark IIs, six to nine Nebulon-Bs or a mix of Nebulon-Bs and MC30Cs in FOC, and most have a mix of two to four Corellian corvettes, Corellian Gunships, and Marauder Missile Corvettes though some add an extra Neb-B, MC30C, or one of each in place of the smaller ships.

I'll make an Imperial fleet someday though.

Don't forget the Smugglers who fly through asteroid fields for fun, Gamblers who invent new fleet combat tactics for fun, Princesses who receive stolen Superweapon plans for fun, and Admirals who have an unmatched ability to figure out the obvious.

Fighter attack runs!

Just wait until the ISDs come out.

As much as it pains me, I'll probably have to lean more heavily toward Rebels just for variety's sake. They should have some excellent fighter builds, at least.

That said, I will be fully committing to whichever faction gets Dreadnaught-class ships first. Something about that design really clicks with me. Can't wait to do a fleet of them.

That one could go either way. On one hand they are old enough the Alliance could probably get their hands on plenty but with their very high crew size to firepower ratio the Alliance modded as many as they could into Assault Frigate Mark Is (though I remember them stealing one that had been converted into a war museum and even after Endor it hadn't been converted so at least some Alliance Dreadnaughts stayed as Dreadnaughts) Whereas the empire has access to plenty due to how common they were pre-Clone Wars and could more easily afford their crew requirements then the Alliance could.

This remains to be seen. You need to remember, that everything we know about "after Endor" is only a Legend. The one thing we know for sure: 20 years later Stormtroopers are still there.. ;)

If I can dual-purpose them as Imperials as I should be able to, then even better.

On-topic, I'm all about the big ships. Cruisers or bigger. Big guns, lots of hull and shields. Getting the most out of limited movement, creating overlapping fields of fire, protecting flanks with complementary ships... this is what I'm in it for.

I'm looking forward to give an order to my Home One to the shouting ,"It`s a trap!!" and unload al my freedom power over a isd...

Weirdly enough, I'm looking forward to positioning my fleets for maximum efficiency, especially since it looks like there will be ships that are better at broadsides versus those that focus their fire forward. I have a feeling I'm going to be MUCH better at Armada than I am at X-Wing.
