FFG Should Sell replacement dials...

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

I've lost the dial for my Lamda. :\

But more than just that, these dials get worn out pretty quickly.

This game has only been out for a few years, in 5 years how worn out are they going to be?

It would be really nice if you could buy the dials separately.

It wouldn't have the issue that selling cards separately would have either.

If you're buying a dial, you've already bought the ship.

In addition to that, does anyone know where I can get a Lamda dial? :(

EDIT: I FOUND IT! :D

Contact FFG's Customer Support. I've lost a few dials myself, and they've replaced them all free of charge. Fairly quickly, too.

That's one thing just about everybody who's ever have cause to contact their customer support has said: FFG is top-notch in taking care of their customers. So go ahead and give them a try. You'll most likely end up happy with the result.

I made an acrylic dial as a prototype for predicted future failure, the plan was to replace all dials and leave the card versions for tournaments.

At work at the moment but will try post a pic when I get home.

One thing that helps a lot is to gloss-coat all your cardboard parts, front and back. When you assemble the dials, place a 5/16" nylon washer between the two halves to eliminate the contact between them.

Dear FFG,

I've lost my 2 Scum and Villainy Firespray Generic pilot cards, ship tokens and dials.....

Yeah, good luck with that... ;)

Do they replace wonky ships? The xwing in my starter was so bad I cut him up and fixed him in cruise mode

I have seen 3rd party movement and range rulers and 3rd party tokens. Are 3rd party dials off limits?

It's only the tournament rules that specify FFG components only, so if you're concerned about wear and tear, buy some after market components and use those. Save the original components for tournament use.

As long as aftermarket dials match the originals I wouldn't have a problem with it, but then we're pretty casual down my way.

FFG customer support replaced a TIE dial that wandered off at regionals for me no problems so I'd recommend contact them and just ask. They may not give us more Avatars to choose from but their customer service is great.

Nikto litko or something like that already has 3rd party dials.

Not sure if the photos will work as its 1st time I've tried.

But the acrylic dial is slightly thicker and slightly smaller than the original

If they sold official plastic dials for a few bucks each I'm sure they'd make a fortune, the cardboard keeps cost down and helps keeping packaging down but they were not designed for years of abuse by fat fingers.

But if you have a dial missing contact ffg I hear they are really good about it.

BAGGY, where did you buy your dials?

Official FFG acrylic movement dials would be a hell of a thing to give out as tournament prizes.

Start with the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter.

I always put contact paper on my dials. It's a little time consuming, but seems to protect them very well.

a friend of mine puts a thing perspex 'shim' between the dial faces to reduce wear.

You could probably achieve the same result with a small washer of the right size.

Personally I cant see mine wearing out in a hurry... i play what, on average two to three games a week. Usually with different ships.

Given they would have to be clear, at least one face anyway and very hard to prepaint and have it stay on... would they not be a pig to read?

and if both sides were transparent then you'd be signposting what you were doing each turn :)

Apparently so

A chap on the uk FB forums had a firespray that hadnt had the post socket mounted. They sent him a new firespray when he asked for a post/peg socket to glue on.

it's what that punch out 'proof of purchase' is for i guess, or you could just take a photo.

I'd be wary of abusing it. GW used to sent out stuff as replacements on 'trust' if you rang up and said a mini was damaged or missing... too many people took the micky and now you have to send the entire box/order/model back to them at your cost before they will replace.

Not necessarily. If both pieces were solid colors (black/grey for Imps, red for Rebels), they could be designed the same way as the cardboard ones, with a cutout to view the desired move. And the moves would be engraved and painted. Might be a little more labor-intensive than movement templates, but would still be a cool exclusive to hand out at tournaments.

yeah i can see that working, like you say the only problem is the time it takes to paint the dials and hoping no one makes a mistake.

if they didnt have three colours it would take no time at all, just splodge on some white paint and swipe it all off by machine but you'd have to hand to inlaid dials with three colours i imagine?

Sorry to resurrect this zombie, but does anyone know where I can buy a dial in the US? I need 1-2 T-65 dials.

I don't know what shape your dials are in but try buying those new fangled dial holders. They only use the marked section of the dial assuming that is still legible.

You can buy the dials from third-party sellers on places like E-Bay.

I've been in the market for a Scyk dial for a few weeks without much luck. Would you mind linking one? No luck on my phone.
