FFG Should Sell replacement dials...

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

You can buy the dials from third-party sellers on places like E-Bay.

I've been in the market for a Scyk dial for a few weeks without much luck. Would you mind linking one? No luck on my phone.

They have an iPhone app called maneuvers for xwing you could use.

When you assemble the dials, place a 5/16" nylon washer between the two halves to eliminate the contact between them.

I second this idea - I read about it on the forums shortly after I started collecting. Have done it for all my dials as a precaution (I'm probably a loooong way off experiencing wear), however I've used brass washers since they a much thinner than the nylon ones I could find, and still give adequate spacing (but a little more costly - AU$0.70 each vs AU$0.39 - IIRC).

Official FFG acrylic movement dials would be a hell of a thing to give out as tournament prizes.

Start with the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter.

Given they would have to be clear, at least one face anyway and very hard to prepaint and have it stay on... would they not be a pig to read?

Not necessarily. If both pieces were solid colors (black/grey for Imps, red for Rebels), they could be designed the same way as the cardboard ones, with a cutout to view the desired move. And the moves would be engraved and painted. Might be a little more labor-intensive than movement templates, but would still be a cool exclusive to hand out at tournaments.

I have half a dozen of these dials, they are top notch although it's worth noting that they're not painted, you have to do that yourself although with the etched detail it's very easy. Then you've got a wear-proof dial for ever : )

Since an old thread got bumped and new dial conversation is happening, I'll toss my question into the ring:

What is the easiest way to separate dials? I bought the official plastic dial holders but most of my old dials are connected so tightly that I've just left them as they are and haven't tried to force any apart yet. I maybe recall reading somewhere before that the easiest way to separate the FFG plastic connectors is to slide some thin plastic underneath one of the lips of the connectors and then slide another piece under on the other side of the same end, and just keep working them until loose? Is that the best way, or just I just dig my nails in and try to brute-force them apart?

Just take the edge of a knife blade and slip it under one side of the connecting piece and pry it up gently. That's always worked for me.

FFG should release a xopy of dails instead off missiontokens. Who even plays missions? Some maybe but the majority don't.
