Play by Post?

By snaykeeiyes, in General Discussion

Anyone thinking of starting one up? My schedule is kind of whack, but I would love to try this game out.

I know, I'm in a similar situation of hunting for a PbP because that's all I have available to me. I would love to find someone willing to run F&D in some shape or form... :)

i've never run a PbP, but if all else fails, i can give it a try.

I'd love to join as player - I don't think I am free enough to run one at this point. Watching this thread in case it happens!

As to running - aside from the effort/difficulties of mapping out a campaign, there's also the limitation of combat 'rounds'. In a less-fixed initiative system like this one, who is available to take the turn becomes a deciding factor. Most PbP games rely on folks checking in every 2-3 days; some can do more frequently but you could look at a single round of combat taking up to 2 weeks.

Having more narrative encounters and fewer blaster encounters (or Lightsaber Diplomacy if you prefer) works better in that format.

I too would like to join a play by post as a player my other game died out not long ago and I have been looking to start up a new one.

I've never played in a PbP game, but I'm interested.

I'd love to join a PbP as a player, I'm up for playing in any of the three settings tho, not just F&D :)

Alright, I'm bumping because I've more or less talked myself into trying to run this once I get my hands on a copy of the Beta. (I see pre-orders being taken online which is a great sign!)

What I'd like to do is run an Old Republic neophyte campaign to put the mechanics through their paces without worrying overmuch about current era fluff. It's a great excuse for several overt force-sensitives to run about doing things and not needing to worry about an overbearing Empire - though there will be plenty of 'Sith' Imperials to interact with! It'd be more or less right after the events of the TOR core game and before Rise of the Hutt Cartel.

Given how much interest there was previously, I'd like to do a Tython academy PbP with as many as want to join; as we get 4-6 folks to roll up characters, they get segregated into one 'team' and sent on missions. When the next group musters out they get sent on separate missions, so we don't have everyone held up waiting on more players.

I can't imagine being able to do too much more than 'get the macguffin' missions; "The (Datacron/Artifact) of a (Lightside/Darkside) paragon which was (lost/stolen/discovered) on (deserted/colonized/gas-giant moon) planet X is sought by (darksiders/archaeologists/black marketeers) but needs to be secured here instead. Go get it!" The initial idea was to have each group subject to one of those, and then another, more detailed 'protect the trade summit' or 'mediate a dispute and find the culprits trying to sabotage' or 'rescue this stolen shipment of lightsaber crystals'.

The teams would have control of something like the Defender ship from TOR (I vaguely remember the stats for that actually being in the F&D book, right? otherwise Consular from AoR) to get them where they need to go. This would be in addition to their choice of Holocron or Mentor as a party. They'd also start off with free practice sabers, but be restricted to races/ careers from F&D, and I plan to hand out quite a bit of XP as we go along. I wouldn't expect much more than folks B game for roleplaying - it's a narrative game, but as mentioned above it'll be episodic/formulaic and certainly not an epic plot with compelling twists.

Sorry that wound up a bit disorganized, but it was kind of a brain dump after work. Would folks have an interest playing in such a game?

I would like to play F&D, rather than just run it.

I would be interested in this! I love that era in the EU.

Finally got my sweaty hands on a copy of the beta (and don't worry, I wiped them off first). I'm still interested in running the PBP as mentioned - Rakaydos, Snaykeeiyes, still interested? And does anyone else have interest in playing the game mentioned three posts up?

Still interested in playing, and am rying to get off my ass and start the "Master level" game I got characters together for already.

would your game be starting level or knight level?

Edited by Rakaydos

Haven't fully decided; it'd support either and I'm willing to be swayed one way or the other. Either way, though, it'll be a generous XP campaign so we can get to some of the higher 'level' stuff.

I am strongly interested in this, but I haven't done a PbP in anything since around D&D 3.0. Please let me know how I can participate.

evnanfardreamer: I'd be very interested in joining. I've never done Play by Post, but hey, there's a first for everything! I tend to be able to check in a few times a day, so it's overall be much better for my hectic schedule. If you haven't started yet, or could introduce another player, then feel free to contact me.

Also, in other news regarding Play by Post, if anyone is willing I'd be happy to run a game I'm coming up with. The adventure is in my "The (Un)Official Force and Destiny Adventure Compilation" (seeking patent), so if anyone wanted to play they could check the summary and contact me.

Castlecruncher, Sporkley, I'd be glad to have you. I've been enjoying being a player on a RPOL.net game so I decided just to use them (not least because it's free) so I've got the campaign reserved on it.

URL is http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=61335

I believe you have to register a (also free) profile on RPOL and then 'request access' to the game. I don't plan on having a player limit, but will be breaking into groups of 4-6 depending on interest.
