From what I can see, Armada seems like you only need to have the core set, and from there you can collect only 1 faction if you wanted to without missing out on generic upgrades as it seems all the cards are faction specific.

Can anyone confirm please?

I wouldn't count on not missing out on upgrades if you only collect one faction if X-Wing is any indicator. Your best would prolly be to find someone who only plans to play the opposite faction to trade with.

Yeah they like to mix upgrades in the expansion packs, so typically only expansion X has upgrades Y and Z. Although they're putting older upgrades in newer expansions in X-Wing, like Advanced Sensors in the E-Wing pack.

But depending on the upgrades your option may be to collect both factions or else collect on and either go without some upgrades or find a way to buy them individually, which using X-Wing as an example won't be easy or cheep.

I hope there are more faction specific upgrades in Armada. I think it will further help the Imperial and Rebel fleets feel different.

I doubt though that they are going to not have upgrade cards in a Rebel expansion that you can't use in an Imperial fleet and vice versa.

Expansions for this are more expensive than X-Wing, so buying all xpacs for extra cards etc. will be more cost prohibitive (especially with all the other cool looking FFG stuff coming out). I'm also wondering how feasible it will be to collect one faction only, and maybe even split a core set with someone (or maybe 2 core sets if there are not enough components to split between 2 people).

Yeah, I guess we haven't seen the upgrades as yet so it's possible they could be either faction specific or genetic.

Even if it goes the way of X-Wing, generally you only have to wait a Wave or two before getting access to the cards released earlier in the opposing factions release.

I won't be collecting both factions so I'll either wait or hit up the eBays for the cards I need.

I'll take a guess that you'll get ship-specific upgrades, and mostly generic ones. With the exception of crew/commander cards, it may be some time before they go faction specific. There simply won't be enough ships for while.

I plan on only collecting 1 faction... I just can't afford to buy all of these ships and all of the x-wing ships.

I think some valid possibilities have been made here. You can risk collecting one faction only and getting certain cards or spend the money to get what you want. and if you wait long enough you get them in a later wave.
