Imperial TIE Fighters attacking Rebel Transport convoy...from 1983!

By xanderf, in X-Wing

The 1983 radio dramatization of 'Empire Strikes Back' added a few scenes vs the original film - notably, the first bit! Heh - it starts off with Rebel fighters escorting Transports on the way to Hoth...when they get jumped by LOTS of TIE Fighters...

Listened to the whole trilogy a couple months ago. Still a lot of fun.

Had this particular one playing the night I was finishing packing to move.

I've heard of the radio adaptations, but have no experience with them. About 99% of my Star Wars exposure consists of what's been on screen (movies and tv). I'm wondering how much material is available for FFG to mine regarding pilots (named and generic) for future "aces" packs, and have any characters originating from the radio dramas already made it into the game? Are characters that originated in the radio dramas included in the LFL license?

I consider myself pretty well-versed in the Radio Dramas. I say that because I've listened to ANH about two dozen times since I was 10-years old, ESB maybe 6 times and ROTJ...well...that one is pretty hard for me to get through to be honest. Maybe once on that one. The acting is hard to listen to, and the fact that Mark Hamill didn't voice Luke in this one really made it worse. Lando, too. They totally cast a white dude to voice Lando in ROTJ. At least in ESB they got Billy Dee Williams to reprise his role.

Anyway, I can only think of one pilot introduced in these. In the beginning of the ESB Radio Drama up top you hear about a Commander (can't remember his name) that bites it in the attack. His death promote Luke to Commander, explaining how he got the title in ESB.

Beyond that, in ANH there's a few Imperial officers that you don't see in the movies, a handful of Rebel operatives, Bail Organa, all of Luke's friends on Tatooine, and I think that's about it. Mostly more screen time (air time?) for people you only saw a little bit of, like Captain Antilles and Biggs.

And yeah, Lucasfilm Limited is behind this 100%. The ANH version was a big deal, ESB less so. National Public Radio lost the funding to make the ROTJ version after some dispute between Lucasfilm and some radio station that floated the bill. I don't know the details, but once ROTJ actually DID get made it was not on par with the other two, in my opinion.

Side Rant:

Because this production has the LFL stamp of approval on it, that means how they pronounce Tantive means that it is the canon pronunciation --> "tan-ti-vee" not "tan-tiv".

KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE !
