Debris Fields and Tournament Play

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

As we wait for the update to the FAQ on the wave 5 ships there are these debris clouds that the ships have come with. I would love to see these included into the Tournament play as an option to add to the playing field. We now have 12 tokens to fill a play field with the inclusion of the debris clouds. One way we could include these tokens in tournament play is have all 12 tokens placed to the side of the beginning of the match. Each player will have a choice of either a debris cloud or astroid when it is the players turn to place the obstacle into play. Once 6 tokens are placed the remaining tokens are put away and you could end up with a mix of Astroids and Debris Clouds to fly around.

I believe this is how FFG will rule.

I hope it is. Debris for when you're worried about hitting the obstacles (swarm, large ships) Asteroids when you want to hard control your enemy.

It would open a whole new layer to the game.

My question would be which player is responsible for providing the templates, and whether it would be a requirement to provide all types.

Isn't there something in the tourney FAQ that mandates that the player with initiative has to provide the set of obstacle templates? Or is that just the customary way of doing it, with no hard-line rule about it?

I would think if you wanted to use Debris, you would have to provide the tokens yourself and switch those out with your asteroids instead.

I don't think it would be a switch out which set you bring. You would likely have the option to bring a set of the debris Cloud tokens or both if you have them. If you are the player who wants to use them then you have to provide them.

if initiative allows the choice of which to use, this could add another dimension to initiative bidding.
