So I was lucky enough to have a friend snag me a copy of a Rebel Aces at Gencon. Played with four A-wings last night and somehow manged to win. I ran the following
Tycho with PTL and Refit
Jake with PTL, Refit, Test Pilot and Predator
Gemmer with Test Pilot, PTL and Proton Rockets
Green Squadron with Refit
I faced Howl, a pair of Obsidians and Kenkirk with Ruthlessness, Mara, Ysanne and a Seismic Charge.
The dice gods were smiling upon me, I don't know how many items I rolled Hit/Crit off the bat. And thought the match I only lost Jake due to blowing his focus on attack. Who is such a blast to barrel roll, Gemmer's Proton Rockets nailed Kenkirk for five damage, Tycho killed both Obsidians with Direct Hit! and the Greeny led the Decimator around an asteroid for two turns while his buddies worked on the TIEs.
It's great flying four fully independent ships and while squishy having the focus and evade makes them hard to nail damage, if they're even in arc. There were a few turns where I just hit the 5 straight to disengage then came back around for another run. It's something I'd highly recommend if things get too tight. Bumping and losing actions will lose ships. Fast.
Was this a fluke?
Maybe.
Was it fun?
Hell yeah!
As a side note, be careful running Farlander with Advanced Sensors. If you use them then Push for stress then do a Green move... Well it kinda makes his ability useless. : /
