Does anyone from the development team or folks that went to Gen Con know the measurement of the Armada ships?

Since the game has only been demo'ed and isn't in full release yet, most of the developers (and playtesters) will still be under NDA. Your best bet might be to dig up some high-resolution photos (Hexis posted some), or find one of the many demo videos floating around these Interwebs.

The VSD is almost the length of the deployment zone.

I'm guessing the VSD is around 5 or so inches. About as long as the YT-1300.
