Possible shuttle build?

By malladin.ben, in X-Wing

I've only just got my shuttle so I've only had a few games with it so far. I tend to find it gets blocked everywhere, usually by PS1 pilots just plopping themselves down in front of it. I thought about APL, but they wouldn't help as it's me bumping them not the other way around. Main problem is I lose my action, which I was hoping would give me a target lock to support Vessery.

Anyway, I thought that a combo of enhanced scopes and APL might create a nice cheap blocker that would still be able to get target locks and be able to dictate the enemy positioning rather than the other way around.

Has anyone else thought of this or tried it out?

Cheerio,

Ben

As a firm shuttle-lover  I tend to use the following just about each and every time:

-Engine upgrade (except on Vader-shuttle)

-Fire Control System or Advanced Sensors

My current go-to list has:

-Soontir Fel + PTL

-OGP+ Engine & FCS

-OGP+Vader

-Academy pilot

This leaves me 7 points for some finishing upgrades and/or initiative bid.

Tried and liked:

Add a shield and target lock to Soontir

Add a gunner to the FCS/engine shuttle

Upgrade the AP to Backstabber

Just my 2 cts. Peace (except on the gaming table) and fly casual.

thats solid advice Elk. id also recommend gunner with FCS+Boost, its very consistent for damage and a mobile flanker.

The problem with APL on the Lambda is that, once the enemy passes you, that lambda is out of the fight for the rest of the game. That's 25 points you're playing without. Yes, it gets you an extra damage or two early on (which may be important damage), but unless the fight turns into a grand melee, with everyone in a cluster, I'm concerned that the strategy isn't going to work as well as you hope.

The above advice of the Buzzsaw shuttle:

OGP + FCS + Gunner + Engine Upgrade

is a strong setup. The boost allows you to get back into the fight, or to cover an amazing amount of distance. Add Tactician and it becomes an even more potent setup.

This is great info.

Are 2 shuttles needed to make it work? I have one and didn't intend on a second.

No. Even one shuttle is a perfectly capable ship and a lovely sight to behold.

Only beaten by more shuttles of course.

Although I don't have a lot of experience running shuttles myself, something else you might want to look into, ESPECIALLY if you find yourself getting blocked constantly is Advanced Sensors, paired with Expert Handling. Advanced Sensors allows you to take an action first, and then move. So, in this case, if you are blocked, you would use Advanced Sensors and Expert Handling to Barrel Roll around the blocked, and then move as normal.

Shuttles can't take Expert Handling. :(

Advanced Sensors and Engine Upgrade work beautifully together though.

I am always, always, always in favor of Targeting Computer on Fel. Boost/BR + TL = free focus

I know there is a lot of advocacy for the FCS on the Shuttle, but to be honest I think when taking the Engine Upgrade that Advanced Sensors are the better option. This is because without them you can at most bank before taking your Boost, so even though you are getting back in the fight faster, it is still relatively slow. With Advanced Sensors you can take the Boost first and subsequently use a hard turn, netting you almost 180 degrees in one turn.

dont forget about ffg's write up on the shuttle, notably titled: In Defense of the Lambda-class Shuttle

They give 4 options:

Doomshuttle

Buzzsaw

Dogfighter

The Tank

It is pre-wave 4 though, but the only real change I can think of would be to change the weapons engi on the buzzsaw to a tactician (Stresssaw)

Doh! My bad. As you can see, I really don't use shuttles at all..

Well, seeing my gaffe above, I have revised my advice somewhat.

With Wave 5 about to drop, you may want to look at putting Mara Jade onboard your shuttle. Anyone who is unwise enough to block you will be receiving a stress token for their trouble.. That may be enough to prevent blockers from the attempt..

Shuttle + Tactical Jammer should be fun, 22 point defensive wall

Hey what do you guys think of anti-pursuit lasers? I have played a couple of games where my opponent kept flying into me for blocking. Wonder if they would have earned their points?

Question. ..does stress for big ships work like ionization? Do I need 2 stress tokens to nerf my actions and Movement. ..or just one? Thanks.
