firespray list looking for advice.

By JamesXatu, in X-Wing

so I am working on a list and am at a point where I don't know what to do with the last few points(11)

here is the list:

2x bounty hunter+tactician

howlrunner+determination

that leaves me with 11 points to work with. any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The obvious choice is to drop Determination and throw in an Academy TIE. Gives someone else for Howl to buff and you get a nice little blocker, and is probably better than spending those 12 points on Determination + Firespray upgrades.

The other option would be to drop Howlrunner entirely and add a more dangerous third ship in her place. 30 points would be enough for an elite Interceptor with PtL.

For some reason that option just went right over my head.

also I was just thinking about an Int right after I posted it, I will have to try some things out here lol.

and again thank you for you're help :)

If it's dual Firesprays you want to stick with, what about adding a secondary weapon to both and flying them with Captain Jonus for two rerolls? Maybe this:

Bounty Hunter (33)

-Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Bounty Hunter (33)

-Autoblaster (5)

Captain Jonus (22)

I'd go the other way and have 2x Bounty Hunters with HLC and Howlrunner.

Gunner and Recon Spec are far and away the best options for vanilla Firesprays, but there's nothing stopping you from running other upgrades. Personally, I like Bounty Hunter + Gunner x2, which leaves just enough points for a Academy Pilot x2, Saber + PtL or OGP + Vader.

Unfortunately, Howlrunner is only primary weapons while Jonus is only for secondary weapons.

There are two guys at my FLGS that run 2xFirespray + VaderShuttle and one uses Gunners and the other uses Recon specialist + seismic charges. Both are valid options and they do very well with the list.

What recon specialist ultimately does is leave a focus for defense, making the firesprays even less of a desirable target. If OP decides to run howlrunner, the firesprays are probably not going to be taking the heat right off the bat.

Overall, if you really want to use Howlrunner then some defensive upgrades for her might come in handy, as well as some gunners or bombs. (or even just the academy). Jonus might work too, but the secondary weapon always feels a bit off on a firespray because you want to be getting use of your rear arc as well, and if you aren't firing forward then you are losing value on that autoblaster or HLC.

I really want to try out :

Firespray

Firespray

Soontir Fel + PTL + Hull Upgrade

Best interceptor you can get!

I always like Dark Curse if you're looking for a third, undesirable target. Still, there's nothing wrong with a well-piloted Interceptor for 24 points.

use Targeting Computer upgrade over Hull Upgrade always for soontir!

As for OP, I fly the Slave-1 the most out of all the ships and by far have the most success with Recon Spec. & for the love of God do not put a HLC on a firespray. Honestly there are waaaay better ships (Defender) that would be a better choice.

My list I've been flying in a local league and have been having huge success with:

Rexlar Brath; HLC, Predator

Night Beast

Bounty Hunter; Recon Spec

I won a local tournament with

bounty hunter w tactician

bounty hunter with rebel captive

omnicrom group pilot w fire control system & gunner.

I lost 2 ships in 4 games, its tough as hell, deals out stress like there's no tomorrow & if one starts to get damaged badly the other two block opponents in & it flies off taking long range shots.

IMO Howlrunner is too expensive for a list with only two other ships. You are paying handsomely for those re-rolls but not using them much, especially once the Firesprays break off solo as they do. Fel with PTL fits in perfectly with those two BHs however.

use Targeting Computer upgrade over Hull Upgrade always for soontir!

TC is awesome on Fel, but with an over abundance of falcons, Fel doesn't always get good use out of it whereas the hull upgrade allows him to last a little longer against 3 attack turrets. Of course if turrets are scarce in your area, then TC is a great alternative if you got points for it.

Once Wave V hits you car run the lowest pilot for all three large ships with 6 points for upgrades. 36 HP, all ships have 3 Attack plus you've got the dual arcs AND a turret. The only problem is what to upgrade? Recon for the BH and Mara on the Deci sounds like fun.

Firesprays with Gunner do damage, pretty much, every time they get a target in arc and they can take a few hits before going down.

I would ditch Howlrunner as she would just be a squishy target that will die quickly. Have you considered a Bomber with a Seismic Charge and Assault Missiles for swarm busting? It is beefy enough to take a couple of hits to deliver it's ordinance.

There is a lot of good ideas here, thanks everyone!

I think i like the idea of an int as ill be handing out stress with the tacticians and ill be able to predict movements a bit better.

If you're set on 2 bh with tactician, that leaves 30 pts. A few good options are:

Soontir with ptl.

Carnor with ptl

Delta

Or possibly 2 ties of your choice.

Also, if you're ok with repositioning firesprays, engine on both and a royal guard pilot would be fun to fly. (Some people can't run interceptors without ptl, but I'm starting to get away from it on ships other than soontir and carnor.)
