It's pretty obvious, really, why we didn't get the Imperial "Huge" ship announcement everyone expected

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Yup it means buying into a new game if you want epic imperial ships but it makes much more sense and i think if you really want to command even interdictor size SDs its they sensible game to play.

So rather than being angrily certain that FFG has canceled the Epic line, you're approvingly certain? (Not a rhetorical question; I'm trying to confirm my reading of your post.)

If that's so, then you still face the same problem the angrily certain people do: there's no evidence at all that FFG has done so. We simply have no information--the same no information we had prior to GenCon. You can't reasonably jump from "no announcement yet" to "no announcement ever".

Not what i said at all.

what i'm saying is that if you're really into capital ship combat it just seems like it makes more sense to use a system *desgined* for that rather than shoehorn them in at a reduced scale into a dogfight game.

I'd be overjoyed if some cool epic imperial ship gets made, it probably will. I just think its mental marketing practice (if i were ffg) to launch a capital ship game and at the same time allow you to do capital ship action with an existing system.

You remove the incentive for those who love the big ships to buy Armada if you say 'dont worry, we'll be bringing out an imperial corvette in two months'

I'm totally up for a huge IMP ship, just... given the scaling issued demonstrated its clearly going to have to be something from the EU or 'rebels' as nothing OT is iconic enough for a large expense purchase... EU ships can be impulse buys, its £10 or $10

A big ship is going to be what $50 minimum, you've got to make it eyecatching an *hopefully* recognisable to fans.

My money would be on something from rebels in six months to a year or so

I'd also bet that quite a few transports and tantives were bought by people who dont even play the game but just wanted a model of that ship. On the whole they will be the older OT fan with a passing or non existant knowledge of the EU.

Put it this way i've been playing for less than a year. It was seeing the Tantive in the window that made me look into the game. If it had been something EU, i *personally* probably wouldnt have given it a second glance. But thats just me..

Like i say, i'm not writing off a huge IMP ship, i just think it may be some time and it may be after FFG see if Armada gets a fanbase out of the captial ship players and people who want star destroyers.

While that's all true it still would feel awesome to have some sort of Star Destroyer or V-Shaped Huge Ship on your side as an Imperial player. But all the points made are quite valid...

Indeed. Which is why quite a few people are hoping for this particular piece of EU awesomesauce:

I'd definitely like to see the Vigil as a future Imperial huge ship! Esp. after seeing this article about it!

I have my own reservations about the viability of the Vigil, but it seems to tick a lot of the right boxes for a lot of people. Certainly from a thematic point of view the Imperials should be capable of fielding the largest, most powerful and most expensive ship available in the game, whether it's wedge shaped or otherwise.

I want to have a regular Star Destroyer for X-Wing. Is that at all possible/realistic? I mean, how big would it have to be? How many Points? 300?

Thousands.

The visual guide to star wars rebels states the imperial gozanti is 63.8 m long. This puts it 30 m shorter than the gr75, and close to twice the size of the decimator. Still in line to be epic scale.

It should come with a regular TIE.

Kind of a bummer that they put that number in print, as when you look at the drawing from the ship from 'Clone Wars'...

310concept01.jpg

...that's no ~60m ship!

Pretty certain the one we see in Rebels is larger than the Clone Wars version.

Dunno, but the Clone Wars version is already longer than 60m. The person in the pic is 14 pixels high, and the overall ship length is 534 pixels long. Presuming an average person height of 2m, that means this ship is 76m long - 25% longer than the 'official' number.

I speculatively agree with xanderf's analysis on why we didn't get the Imperial huge announcement at GenCon. I hope that this is part of Disney trying to have a firm hand on canon development, and they want a coherent idea of what the Gozanti is, so that FFG doesn't preemptively design it as one thing, while the Lucasfilm Story Group still needs to flesh it out. Or, maybe it's not the Gozanti, but something else. Same difference.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't get the sense that FFG is trying to play this game with us. Just me sitting in my office speculating on how I might milk my customers for their last dime, it might be a tactic. But I think a company like FFG have a customer relations ethic that is a bit more principled, or is at least long-term greedy. As circumstantial evidence I would point to their customer service department and how they will replace lost/missing parts with no/few questions asked.

Also, I don't think that Armada and X-Wing are in zero-sum competition this way. An Imperial Huge ship such as a Gozanti or even a Vigil-class is not going to take away our desire to field an Imperial Class Star Destroyer. (In case of the Vigil, it's just that big dish that takes away from the ISD feel.) For my part, I hope that the two games help eachother rather than detract from one another.

I think it's a very telling sign that they didn't make an announcement on Imperial Huge Ship or Ships. Rather, they announced the adding of the Scum and Villainy faction. It very well could mean that FFG wants to kill two birds with one stone here. I would suspect that with the announcement of the Imperial Huge ship we will also get a Scum and Villainy Huge ship covering all factions for Epic play.

It is my hope at we'll see a Gozanti packaged with either a TIE Fighter or an Advanced.

Because c'mon, you know that the Inquisitor or that other Imperial guy with the weird helmet are going to have to hop into a starfighter to escape or something and that ship might as well be an Advanced because cool.

That big post of falsehood's is one of the many reasons he and I are good friends.

We'll be seeing that exactly. I think I was the first one to make the "packaged together" prediction actually, in my Rebels wave thread.

An average person is more like 1.8M tall (2 meters is more than 6 1/2' tall). That makes the gozanti in your picture more like 68m long, pretty close to the 63.8m figure and easily explained through a small error in measurement.

Ive seen a couple of references on the length of the Gozanti at ~75m long and this thread is the first time Ive seen anything as short as 63m! The references at 75m seem more in line with scale measurements that Ive attempted using Tie fighters as a reference.

Yeah! Star Destroyer thread.

If it were to scale 15 times the size of the Corlean Corvette. But as we all know the Corlean Corvette is not to scale of the regular miniatures so here is a diagram I theoretically made in order to use 2 CR-90 sized bases for the model. Of course you know disclaimer it is unofficial so who knows what it will be like.

I am a little disappointed that FFG did not release any info on Imperial huge ships. They made EPIC rules and set up a version of the game to have huge ships in it, but they haven't balanced the factions.

I thought for sure they would have balanced the factions huge ships before adding a third faction.

With no announcement at GenCon that means that it will be months after they do release an announcement that the huge ships will be coming, if at all now.

I am not picking up a Tantive until they have its counterpart response for the Empire. There's no reason, game balance-wise, not to.
