New Player choices and expectations

By eric.sita, in UFS General Discussion

I recently began getting into UFS it seems like a fun game. However I am coming into a well established game that has many sets, which normally I do not like to do.

So I believe I am just going to stick with one character at this point. Zi Mei seems to have a good card as well as his promo. I am thinking of picking up her promo as I hear good things and I like to be competitive. Are there suggestions for good cards that I should seek out as singles to create a playable deck. Also how is the Zi Mei starter?

Hmm...

Well, between promo Zi Mei and starter Zi Mei you have 5 different symbols, Air-Chaos-Death-Evil-Fire. As such, I'd suggest picking one of those so that you can decide on the right pack for your character.

Air - Get plenty of King of Fighters and Flash of the Blades.
Chaos - Flames of Fame and Flash of the Blades
Death - Shadowar or Realm of Midnight
Evil - Tower of Souls
Fire - Shadowar

Promo Zi Mei is easily one of the best characters in this game. Sadly, she has not won a single event so far, but that could always change (as it has for such characters like Akuma, and mark my words, Seong Mi-Na WILL win eventually!). If you want to start with promo Zi Mei, you're off to a good start.

I would advise you run her off Evil since Evil is arguably the best symbol in this game as of right now. However, if you want a more reliable way to abuse the crap out of Fury of the Ancients, then run her off Fire.

How is starter Zi Mei? I wouldn't really know. I honestly don't like her, but off of Air, she can be pretty alright. I'd still go with promo, but if you wanna give starter a try, you HAVE to get Fury of the Ancients as well as some Shooting Capoera, Lord of the Makai, and Natural Leader.

With fury of the ancients you really cant go wrong either way and her foundation that clears multiples is amazing.

Zi Mei's starter deck as a whole is a little iffy... Yes it does have some great cards in it, and it's possible to do some decent damage, but it's lacking in decent blocks (which is a huge problem for her small vitality). However, if you were to add in cards from other sets it would get a lot better (the whole thing is based off of Fire too), I just don't recommend playing the starter deck straight from the box >_>

Well I dont expect to do any majors, more or less I want to be compettitive in a standard environment. So which boosters should I focus on...when will the previous watermark no longer be a part of the block? Are these 2 new sets SC 4 and Shadowar the first sets to have the new 5 point shuriken watermark? How many sets in a row have the same watermark typically.

Set 12 (SC4 and ShadoWar) are the 1st to have 5-points, and 4 points will be tournament legal until next year (I'm guessing between Frebruary and April). Typically 4 sets in a row will have the same watermark, and until 2010 sets start coming out we'll have the 5-point. I'd focus on ShadoWar for Fire support, since Realm of Midnight is sold out and tricky to find, and Evil stuff standard in Zi Mei is hard to get (Midnight Launchers, Knight Breakers, etc). You could go for Chaos stuff too, since Flames of Fame is a solid set...

Ok so just picked up promo Zi-Mei from ebay for 2 bucks...now I might run her off Fire, any more suggestions how about good foundations?

What is a good average CC score? Average Difficulty?

You want your average cc margin to 4 or more, atleast a bit higher than your average dificulty score. with zi mei's ability, playing 2 check atacks may be tempting, but i would keep them to a minimum.

Should I just stick with Shadowwar if I wanna play Fire? I am trying to find great foundations to fit her style. Any suggestions? So you know some sets are hard to find online so please suggest with easy to obtain stuff. I notice a lot of decks use these big time promos etc. I would like to NOT be a gimp and at least hold my own...of course its hard just starting a game but I like to try and obtain stuff i need.

Well, if you're purchasing only from the new sets, the ShadoWar set has more Fire cards, so...
