40 point E-wing squad ideas needed

By terrymac94, in X-Wing

So I have this tourney I'm doing in a week or so now, and was hoping some players could give me their opinion on a couple of squad ideas I have involving a named E-wing pilot for a 4 person/40 point match.

Idea #1: Corran Horn w/ R2-D2 and Vet. Instincts.

Or idea #2: Mr. Horn w/R7, Fire Control, and Vet. instincts.

The Vet. instincts would help me smoke any potential Phantoms and possibly Defenders (unlikely I know, but still an option).

My main concern is that The R7 will be better against one on one fights, but any more than 1 enemy attacking is pottentially able to cause really good damage, while R2-D2 would allow me to double attack and just fly off while healing a shield (maybe even barrel roll behind an astroid when given the chance :) ).

There will be 12 astroids used per match on a standard sized game-area, any ideas offered woiuld be greatly appreciated.

Coran+ adv sensors, vet inst and R2 astromech

Corran, PtL, R2 unit. All 1 and 2's become green so no issue shedding stress and you can choose 2 of his 4 actions a turn if you wish, depending on where you are in relation to the opposition.

Well, since its 40 points I wouldn't be too worried about numbers, so r7 should* be as beneficial as r2d2.

it's kinda a weird spot trying to fit corran at 40 points with everything he wants. Your 2 lists are about as good as any, if I was gonna improve it it would be by swapping down to Ethan to fit advanced sensors or sensor jammer and w/r2d2 and maybe veteran instincts or adrenaline rush

I don't understand the rules. Is it a team game ? or a furball ?

I think its a ffa not too sure, that's why I think defensive upgrades are what he should be looking at

I would suggest ptl + r2 then.

Yeah it's furball :)

I'm not too worried about Phantoms, just the possibility that 2 or more players have the potential to outright waste me.

I'm sure that new players have sat down at a table, and found out that all of their opponents are super best brosephs, or whatever, making you, the new guy, on the receiving end of their coordinated lasers and/or explosives.

That's why I was thinking something defensive to keep Mr. Horn livin' it up till the end of the game because his ability is offensive.

Ideally i would attack twice at an opportune time (which would probably be every time i could :) ) and get the hell out of there to position myself for the next round I can attack, denying the aforementioned hypothetical BBFF's from celebrating your death over a couple of brewskis.

But on the other hand I could be just overthinking things, and something more offensive to complement the double attack ability would work better .....
