Also. I want that poster.
So Howlrunner is a total babe?! [PICTURE]
There's a few really nice cheesecake Rebel Alliance recruiting posters out there too. But being called a sexist pig once a thread is enough, so I won't post them here and now.
Hey, that Porkins poster is pretty hot as well.
We need more girl like you...

...and people wonder why there aren't more women in the hobby...
This is a pretty important point... My wife, a gamer, complains about the lack of female characters in a lot of these games. I agree with her.
I don't disagree about the lack of women characters in general... I was speaking more about the commentary and attitudes in this thread.
It's not just this thread go back to when we were talking about whisper and echos gender, people were really against either of them being female one even going so far as to claim it was a geriatric clone trooper so could not be a female it was silly.
Well, there was a clone trooper named Echo. It's just that... he kind of died in one of the episodes aired back in 2011.
And... clones age at double the rate and old men don't make for the best pilots.
And... being a ground pounder doesn't give you the skills to be an elite test pilot of the Empire's most advanced technology.
And... we don't even know if he would have been loyal to the Empire.

I had a whole post typed up to argue every point, but I'll just stick to "He's dead." It's a far less debatable explanation. ![]()
Hehe…I had a game a couple weeks ago, my opponent kept referring to Howlrunner as a “he,” so i pointed out the character was a woman. He just said “let’s agree to disagree
"Um no, cos you're wrong *punch*"
is what i's have done
That totally matches your avatar!
Bonus points if the guy you hit is an older, somewhat inebriated, superior officer. ![]()
Got a question: In your play group, how many players are women?
Is there anything that you think would help introduce this game to women/girls assuming that you and your current play group are trying their best to not be sexist jerks?
Don't forget the (Y-wing?) pilot who dies at Endor.
That's Karie Neth. She's one of the reasons I'm still holding out hope for Y-wings in the next Aces-style pack, even though they're (probably? sort of?) getting that treatment in Most Wanted.
Also, addressed to the world in general: I am trying, inspired by mrfroggies, to Post Casual. Gender essentialism, resentful misogyny, and jokes that are at best in really poor taste are really, really not helping change the tone of the forum--and, more personally, it's like asking me to give up my shooting-fish-in-barrels habit and then walking me past a really narrow barrel full of really slow fish.
What I'm saying is that it's not cool, and it would be nice if you guys (because there's no doubt you're all men, or at least boys) could help make sure those things stop happening.
I'm your huckleberry.

Do you often punch people for disagreeing with you as it concerns the possible sex of a fictional character?
I play at the CoC in orlando. You want to come punch me?
This threads existence is depressing on multiple levels.
lol
Sod gender inequality, how many black people are in Star Wars.. i think TWO in the OT (lando and a bespin guard)
Mace Windu in the prequels?
While you might not see a lot of female characters in staring roles, in the backdrops on the movies (i've literally just finished watching ANH) there are loads of women (and possibly women aliens) in the background but very few... read *no* black people or asian people.
Thats a wierder outlook.
Compared to say 'firefly' where there is a good spread of racial and gender types in both main characters and background figures.
There was Grizz Frix a black X wing pilot

Given that would involve a trip to Orlando it's tempting, i'll do it gently though. Can i crash on your sofa after?
Why on earth would you want to go to Orlando? And why, given that you had to go for some reason, would you choose to do so in August? Orlando in August is where Satan goes when he gets chilly in Hell and wants to go on a nice warm vacation.
To quote my wife: "Oh. Are you arguing about toy spaceships? On the internet? Still?"

My parents are actually going to Orlando this weekend, it's their 30th anniversary and they want to go on the Hogwarts express.

Try to introduce the game to people, without focusing on gender. There's way more variation between experienced and inexperienced gamers than there is between males and females, and trying to have some "x-wing for girls" demo is probably going to come across as skeezy.
My board gaming group is about 40% female; the x-wingers are a much smaller subset and are 33% female (she wins local tournaments).

Erm, regular players in my group, probably 25 to 30 per cent. Simon, Mark and I play and all out wives play which would make it 50 per cent but then their are all the other guys in the nottingham group i play against who i have no idea if their partners play!
Pic from a recent game of Mark's wife Kait and my wife SIan playing
oh and here on the right of the pic if my friend Nat at a party when she had 'howlrunner' hair.

Yes, I don't make any overt changes based on gender. But there's the inherent marketing of this type of game to boys. People who have studied social psychology and social justice will know what I'm talking about. For the rest of you, just think about it for a bit.
Don't think I saw anyone vote for Mara. =(
Ruthless girl!
It is what we've been saying all along, only know you realize..
Come to the Dark Side, we've got cookies!
only one of the factions rocks the metal bikini. It's the real reason The Rebels won, they knew what they were fighting for...
To quote my wife: "Oh. Are you arguing about toy spaceships? On the internet? Still?"
no, were arguing about the crew cards that depict cartoon images of women who might be IN those you spaceships, and debating their comparative hotness. You're going where? You're taking the kids...and the toaster? When are you coming back? Never! But honey...it's Monday, I need the car for x-wing night...
