YT-1300 AND YT-2400. third faction eligable?

By EmpireErik, in X-Wing

Based on what little I know of the expanded universe, it appears (from these forums) both ships, generics, would be third faction eligable?

I would also propose on club level games this would be allowed?

They certainly should be. Just currently aren't.

I think a new FAQ may change that, easy to do.

No. They are already diluting faction uniqueness with the 4 shared ships. We don't need another 2 added to the list.

The YTs are not going to be part of the Scum faction. There are other ships coming. :)

The YT-1300 and YT-2400 are closely identified with the Rebels in Star Wars canon. Even if FFG wanted to, I'm not sure LFL would let them run YTs as part of Scum & Villainy.

What they'll probably do is release an expansion pack akin to Aces and that will have a basecard for the YT series. FFG will drip feed the new stuff. My guess is a new X-Wing release every quarter for about 18 months.

Also, we need mercenaries that can be used by either faction.

I don't know how 'into' the new faction I am, but I would prefer it to be more scoundrel than scum (pirates, bounty hunters, mercenaries, gangsters and smugglers all welcome).

I was just thinking an Outer Rim Smuggler had to be. Unless I am missing what the third-faction "is".

The 2400 maybe. The 1300, I doubt, although there are plenty of Fringer pilots (the Millenium Falcon went through a lot of hands before Mr PS9 got it.)

Hardly. Scum HWKs are completely different beasts to Rebel HWKs and Scum-Ys likely have scummy abilities too. The Scum have the Y-wing and Z-95, but not their unique pilots, their PS values or even their astromech upgrades when it comes to Y-wings. Buffing friends is still Alliance.

No, we don't. A third Faction is fine if they keep it a third faction. If characters with special abilities can cross over then certain ones (ones with Howlrunner/Biggs/The PS 8 Scyk type/Etahn abilities) will be so popular they become "autoincludes" like turrets on HWKs/Y-Wings Chardaan Refits on A-wings, PTL on Soontir Fel etc.

I am excited we have Scum and Villainy but any mercenaries should either be a part of that faction or become a new Scoundrel faction that would be opposed to the S&V like the Rebels and Empire are opposites not be able to float between all 3 imo. One of the biggest reasons I switched from 40k to X-wing is an inherent balance problem caused by "allies" (of course 40k had millions of other balance issues, that probably was just pushed even further by their allies rules)

Doing like they have done Boba is ok. AKA if they do a Han Scum card and base that works. Keep it to some things that are cannon/early eu. Which the brings up the question of who all could have crossover cards? Han, Chewie and Lando. Mara Jade if you want to go that far up the timeline.

I think more than likely they will save those just in case they decide to do smugglers and spies as a fourth faction in the (distant) future.

Smugglers and spies is the light side equivalent to scum and villainy and represents non-bad guy fringe society.

I think a new FAQ may change that, easy to do.

Considering they added new cards, tiles and dials for firesprays, Hwk's, Y's and Z's, a simple FAQ change is not in the cards.

Having a S&V faction does make the YT generics and the firespray in existing factions seem really stupid in hindsight. I can excuse the falcon and slave 1 due to age, but the 2400 generic for the rebels should have been changed with S&V on the near horizon.

So are Y-wings...

I don't think they will. Because the Rebels only have two large ships and making them double faction would sorta suck for them. It's not as important with the Firespray because the Imperials have the Decimator and the Shuttle that remain unique.

Yeah I'm thinking that somewhere in Wave 8-10 we will see a Smugglers and Spies Faction. The Star Wars universe is loaded with Smugglers that never really joined up with either side like Han and Lando did, but that certainly weren't "Scum". And the number of ships that would add to the possible lineup goes through the roof.

P.S. I haven't posted in forever but I've been keeping an eye on all of you. :) This new stuff had me excited enough to post

Y-wings are also well known as pirate ships.

I would be willing to bet my favorite nut that there is NO WAY that Han Solo will end up in the same faction as Boba Fett (or Chewbacca and Bossk). FFG seems to care too much about the canon to ever let that happen. So, if Han ever gets a "Smuggler Han" card, it will be in a yet to be revealed faction.

S&V makes sense as a standalone because of their prevalence in the Star Wars universe, and, to be honest, I don't know that we'll ever get another faction (and I'm fine with that). If the YTs make it into S&V, they better have S&V exclusive characters attached unless there's a **** good reason otherwise.

Name ships aside, generics yes. an outer rim smuggler can(?) be part of the third faction...

I guarantee the YT-2000 will be Scum.

It'd be weird to not have scum '1300s though.

Both YT models should be included in the S&V faction, they'll probably release the cards and dials later as an expansion like the Ywing/Z95 set.

Bear in mind that no S&V YT1300 should ever be anywhere near as powerful as Han or Chewie.

Well in my wave 7 thread I threw up an idea of a "Smugglers Pack" Which was a repainted Lambda Shuttle (The one Hans used to infiltrate Endor) that includes base cutouts and pilot cards for YT-1300 ant YT-2400. Have a scum Lando with a Modified YT-1300 stats (3 Firepower, 8 hull, 5 Shields) and a couple of unique unmodified freighter pilots (2 Firepower, 6 hull, 4 shields).

Scum got the initial crossover ships just to make it possible for them to compete. If you had to buy 12 new ships just to start...it would be too cost prohibitive to take on for most(or had to wait for 3 waves before you had a good list). This makes it accessible for most of the x-wing fan base. After the initial release....they will not have any more crossovers. and new scum ships will come in every new wave.
