Are the rebels simply better?

By DAWHIPPA, in X-Wing

I've been playing this game for a minute now and it really seems like the rebels are simply better. Superior shields almost all around. 360 degree arcs with the falcon. Astromechs. Every time I play imperial I get smoked by them I have a 1-4 win rate as imperial and I'm not lacking content. I have everything but the tie bomber and shuttle. The only time I win is when I just do a tie swarm with howlrunner and in my eyes is the only thing they have going for them and that's what everyone runs in tournaments Maybe I'm just missing some huge part of the game. But basically I'm only going to play rebels from now on.

Phantom, interceptor, and shuttle won nationals the other day.Only 1 tie swarm made the top 8 and there wasn't that many throughout the weekend.

It takes more than a minute to play the game... and you definitely can't play 5 games in just a minute unless your just that horrible at the game

Imperials generally require good flying--using obstacles and maneuverability to the fullest. Rebels aren't stronger at all--in fact a phantom interceptor shuttle list just won the US National tournament.

This is the exact complaint my friend just made to me. He has played a dozen games as imperial and only does decent with swarms. Rebels have so many combos and good pilots and upgrades, he can't stand it... He wants to play as the Empire, but he would also like to win some games.

I play both, mostly empire... I have had marginal success with non swarm empire, but for the most part, it does seem unbalanced

The swarm lets you fly into your oponent's teeth, which is something the tougher rebel ships can also do, so if your games are jousts then swarm imps will fly like rebels. So if you favor thst tactic, yes Rebels are better at it.

Imps are meant to be slippery. Use an anchor, like a firespray or shuttle, then flank with a mix of whatever else, defenders, phantoms, tie mini swarm...

The two factions fly very different, take time to learn the imps before you rage quit them.

Yes.

:D

Empire has more high risk, high reward ships then the rebels do. Their ships also tend to be a little more difficult to fly. Whether it is due to low hit points, play style of a particular ship(Phantom and interceptor), or just the differences of the dial(shuttle and defender)

Edit: I am not saying that rebels are any easier to master than the imperials just that the beginner to intermediate level of skill favors rebels.

The lack of shielding sucks too but I'm not gonna complain about that as I have overcame it enough but the imperials don't have anything that equates to a R2. Lol I've seen (in tournament) a all interceptor list and all of them got a critical damage withing the 3rd turn. Also you can get a Z95 for the same price as a academy tie. Maybe it's one more id have to look but I think that's a little messed up

The Empire is tough to get a handle on, both flying and squad building, whereas the rebels tend to be more forgiving and flexible. If you're doing best with the bomber and shuttle, two of the tougher ships (at least in overall hit points) you might be more inclined to a rebel playstyle. But flown well Interceptors, Phantoms, Firesprays, and Defenders can be devistating.

In my first tournament (local only) I saw allot of Rebel Squadrons and only 1 Imperial. This was Assault on Imidar Alpha so the Wave 4 ships were being released as prizes so in the tournament it was Wave 3 and earlier ships.

In League I see more Imperial Squadrons, but with Wave 4 more and more Imperial Squadrons have came into light.

The rebels have been favored by FFG in the area of vastly more customization and synergistic abilities and unique crew. I still prefer the imperial ship selection but the rebels are now able to swarm ships so they have even moved into the biggest strength of the imperials. I am hoping that the imperials will someday close the gap on unique crew options and synergistic abilities. Thankfully we still have the best one in Howlrunner.

Shields and turrets are for sissy boys. Flying naked with only a front arc is the only way to truly live.

A z95 swarm is still no where near as good as a howlrunner swarm.

You can't fly Imperials like you fly Rebels, or vice versa, they require different approaches as will Scum I expect.

My gf flies imperials exclusively & kicks my tail about 50% of the time. She doesn't typically play swarms either but more elite lists. My god does she make excellent use of advanceds & interceptors! I think our last two non epic games she actually had fewer ships than I & I don't zwarm.

Treason soldier. I can see that you are just not academy material. Go ahead. Go. Join the scum (and the villainy). I look forward to crushing you and your little tantrum that you've branded as a "rebellion". Go get a neck tattoo. Pierce your face. Yah, "rebellion"... Ha.

Yes.

No :P

Statistics of tournament results would disagree with you.

I need to consult your girlfriend asap if she has this down. She clearly knows something I'm clueless about

Well instead of consulting his girlfriend (which might get awkward) you might want to watch youtube videos of people running imperials successfully. I'm not sure if most people would agree with me, but if I had to choose a faction that I feel is over powered it would definitely be imperials but I do agree with some of the sentiments that flying Imperials to success takes a bit more skill then your typical rebel list. It seems to me at least for the most part rebel ships are just a lot more forgiving to newbie's because you have that shield buffer on all ships that allows you to recover from mistakes, where with Imperial ships, if you make a blunder, something explodes.

Not to suggest it takes less skill to fly rebel ships, but it does allow for more mistakes which makes them a bit more newbie friendly.

Also if you want to get Mathwing about it, statistically speaking you are more likely to lose a match because of bad rolling with Imperials then you are with Rebels, again because of shields (how critical hits work) and the fact that attack die are statistically better then defense die, so having 3 green die is not as good as having 3 red die.

The imperials have no safety net of shields and rely more on the player himself than do the Rebs (very generally speaking).

Sounds like the rebels are more your thing .

That's fine, that's why there are different play styles.
