Raven's got info on the next expansion, and I think it's going to be awesome. No mention of heroes though, unless you count that thing about Edward. Dragons are definitely in. Demon beasts were mentioned once, but then again they could be referring to the dragons also.
The Raven is back -- Dragons and Demon Beasts!
Woohoo! long live the Raven!
He's a bit testy now, a sign o' the times, perhaps?
As for info in the fluff...Defiintely showcasing Heroes (in Edward..mentioning him going to Wizardry instead of the 'path of the Warrior' seems like an obvious give away to me). I believe the 'Demon Beasts' are separate from the Dragons (3 different ones possibly) as they are mentioned before the Raven finds out about the Dragons. Nice fluff all around and good to see he's back at it. Maybe now that he's out of his hole, he can grab a sketch pad and get us some pics
Well, R.Borg mentioned a dragon as the first Red Creature, didn't he.
well, this story hints that there might be a castle and seige rules in the works doesn´t it?
Doubt there would be castle/siege just yet (can't recall and it's too late/I'm too lazy to look--did Mr Borg mention they had been working on castle/siege rules with his playtest group?).
However, it's pretty exciting that the Raven's coming back (nearly a year since his last missive!), especially since it has generally been preceding an official announcement by about a week. And while I'm not certain how the images for the new FFG front page are decided (not the special rotating images front and center, but the large icons to the left of the announcements), I've noticed that BL has been prominantly displayed for the last couple of days. Big announcement in store? Hopefully something out in time for GenCon? We can only hope...
But more importantly, I'd rather not get my hopes up too high just yet--after all, we've had this carrot dangling in front of us for a while.
That's how I feel, too. I'd always thought it was too optimistic to expect anything before this fall--FFG would need time to develop the next expansion and probably wouldn't try to put anything out before the fall shopping season. But who knows?
From reading the Raven dispatch, "demon beasts" sounds more like the fictional peasants' term for "monstrous creatures"--nothing new there. I don't get muc h of a vibe about castles/seiges, either. Heroes could go either way, and there's been a lot of discussion about it.
What it really seems to be telling us is about dragons, and that they'll be flying creatures. But what about them? Are there three different varieties of dragon? Or is it three dragons like we have "three" bagpipers, with banners the only difference? It should be interesting to see!
Any news on BL are good news, at least for me. I feel a sudden excitement, and as the rest of us, I surely hope it won't take any more months untill the first FFG Expansion is available. Still hope they make it available soon in german .... but who cares
And again, nothing from FFG still - not doubting the Raven but come one FFG - 6 months and still really nothing new or even projected as being released from anyone from FFG or even on record as going to being released either. Wonder why they have to use Richard and the Raven as "mouth pieces"...gee, where did they get this marketing stuff from folks - from the Dummy series?? Very very sad and awful if you ask me...

But didn't, once DoW start intentionally leaking stuff through the Raven first, they generally give about a 1 week lag between the "leak" through UniversalHead and an official announcement. I don't really expect to hear anything from FFG until next week at the earliest.

I emailed FFG last week (before Raven's letter) asking if they could give any information at all on upcoming releases and was told what has been said a few times on these forums...that it is sometimes a no-win situation. If they announce planned things before they reach a certain stage in development, then people get frustrated about overdue game releases. They said that, in general, they will only announce things when they have pretty much gotten to the 'almost at printer' stage. They also said that they want to do these expansions right so they are not rushing into things. No new news here.
However, they did say to keep on eye on the news page and the upcoming games page. Take it for what you will but to me that means there will be an announcement coming pretty soon (a week or two?) about the heros expansion and/or some other stuff. The letter by Raven seems to confirm that timeline...if the history of Raven's letters holds true.
The bad news is we will not be seeing an editor any time soon. They made that clear. They would like to do it but don't currently have resources available (IT people are swamped) to do it. They also said that they can't just transfer DOWs editor over because it is not compatible with their webpage code (and I think there may be issues of rights as well). I would really love to see an editor, about as much as I would like to see some more expansions!
So, let's be patient a little longer. I think our patience will pay off in big dividends soon.
But with DoW at least you got to see responses on the forums - hardly the case here with FFG. And Battlelore is not a "slouch" game - ie. only a few people play - just look at the BGG rating it has.
Just that it sure would be nice to have some FFG employee - they have that with the other forums - why not here - just seems like they are taking the approach that this is some orphaned son and no one wants to have anything to deal with it.
And yes DoW did leak some info to the Raven in the past - but pretty sad that FFG couldn't even say anything. And there was at least some rapport that DoW had with the BL community at least initially...not seeing that here with FFG. The "Watch the news" line is getting old real quick. And everyone who has been following Battlelore knows there is a Heroes expansion - no surprise there but can't even get a listing on Products to be released page - come on??
