Why is Obi-Wan Kenobi not in the game?

By Clayjar, in X-Wing

It is interesting that they haven't included him as a crew card yet. Him being a jedi master opens up a world of possibilities for his ability.

As for people who say "he's dead", there are exactly how many characters in this game who died, like, only days later at Yavin? Plus, he could just as easily be Ghostly-Wan on his card :D

Elite pilot talent, unique rebel only. Adds an additional elite pilot talent (he's a voice in the pilots head) discard obi wan and gain a focus token.

So it lets Luke and other elite rebels take him. Doesn't prevent them from doing other elite pilot stuff. Maybe make it require ps5 or higher so you don't have green a wings taking it.

No Palpatine either.

"Flying is for droids"

Well, now we have an answer as to why we need Prequel ship from Episode I, II and III. This way we can put in Obi Wan into the mix. :P We really need that Jedi Star Fighter for the minis.

Now the question will be, how can we have 8 year old Ani, Brooding Skywalker on Rebles side, with Darth Vader on Empire side in the same game. :P

dude, obi-wan kenobi is no longer among the living mortals

not cool!

Greedo died before they even left Tattooine, yet he's in the game.

He should be something long the lines of "There are alternatives to fighting".

At the beginning of the combat phase, if your ship is within the firing arc of more than one ship, you may perform a free boost action, and you may opt to use the "2 templates instead of the 1.

'Use the Force'

Luke Skywalker Only.

You may fire a secondary weapon without spending a target lock or focus.

Turn all Blank results to Hits.

2 point EPT

As crew card it could read "after you perform an attack and it dose not hit it still hits from a certain point of view"

I think that's Blount, dude. ;)

Had a thought a while back about his scene at the beginning of Episode 3 when the buzz droids mess up his ship and Anakin saves him. How about this:

PS5, no EPT

When you receive a stress token, you may choose another friendly ship at Range 1-2. That ship may perform a free action.

Obi-Wan pilot card. Level 6, by his own admission he is not a great pilot. Skills: Jedi skill when attacking his target receives 1 stress, and he may he may change 1 hit to a critical that ignores shields. On defense the ship firing at him receives 1 stress and if his pilot skill is less than Obi-Wan he must select a different target. Would only be available for X-Wing and Z95 did not fly any others.

Crew card: Immediately after movement dials are set he assigns 1 stress to any enemy ship at range 1-3, and can adjust that ships movement dial to any movement of the same speed.

The idea is that he is a master of the force. this might open up a new type of modification to pilots that were know to be Jedi knights or Sith Lords.

I like it in theory, but in practice, I think that's what Riot calls "anti-fun" game effects. Basically, it makes your opponent miserable to have their dial chosen for them.

Putting it differently: if you are stressed, and you make a red maneuver, you hand your dial over to your opponent. That penalty is incredibly extreme because FF is trying to make sure you _never ever do this_. Your Obi wan card would make that penalty a basically at-will phenomenon.

I mention this because a similar line of thinking would apply to the much mentioned tractor beam upgrade.

Don't get me wrong- I like the idea of Ben having an effect that restrict opponent movement. And I _love_ the thought of the Force being a keyword that gives certain characters certain powers.

Maybe a Crew!Ben would have something like "At the end of the maneuver phase, Ben may choose one ship at range 1. The ship Ben is on has +1 agility when being attacked by that ship. Ben's Ship then take 1 stress." It's not perfect wording, but I think gives an interesting gameplay effect, gives options to the person putting Ben on a ship, and still gives freedom to the person going against Ben. I think it gets near the gameplay options you like, but without causing anti-fun in the opponent.

Maybe he'll be a crew member available after the release of an Imperial huge ship. You can discard the card to disable the tractor beam.

There are alternatives to fighting

After your opponent rolls an attack with 3 or more hits and you roll 3 or more blanks on defense, you may break a piece off one of your enemy's ships. :P

I could see him on defense.

"At the start of the combat round, discard this card and choose one enemy ship. That ship cannot declare you as a target this round."

Range 1 of Echo? Too bad, this is not the freighter you're looking for....

i feel like obi wan's crew ability would be

when an enemy ship targets you for an attack, you may flip this card face down and it cannot shoot this round

*edit* nvm, the guy above me, beat me to it

at least i was on the ball..lol

I always liked the quote "Who is the more foolish, The fool or the one who follows the fool?" or something to that effect. Could never remember exactly how it goes. :P

They would have put Obi-Wan in the game but Lord Vader was having to much fun using his light-saber to play baseball with Obi's head. ;)

Pundit, I see your point. It might be better, as a crew member, to say after movement Obi can assign a stress token and assign an Ion token to the ship and Obis ship receives a stress token.

I do like the idea of creating a series of force effects, both on the good side and the dark side for those pilots that are either Jedi or Sith, after all the force is really the center of the story.

Why not:

Crew (Jedi Mind Trick):

Before dials are revealed, choose 1 enemy ship within range 1 and change their dial to a maneuver of your choice. Then discard this card.

As crew card it could read "after you perform an attack and it dose not hit it still hits from a certain point of view"

I think that's Blount, dude. ;)

how about "This is not the ship you want to be targeting. Discard this card and no ship can attack you this round"

His only participation as a crew member was giving this advice:

"You can't win, but there are alternatives to fighting."

Flip this crew member face down to hide under the table for the remainder of the round.

Okay well seriously. Here would be an Obi Wan crew. Point cost 2 maybe 3.

(rebel only)

Action: This ship cannot perform attacks nor can it be attacked for the rest of the turn, discard this card at end of the turn.

Note: it doesn't stop damage being dealt from say Assault Missiles or saboteur flipping damage cards over. It just stops a ship from getting attack die rolled on it for 1 turn only.

I like it! But what type of cost would you be looking at? Even as a one use item, it could be a real game changer...

His crew card could also say "When your ship lands on an asteroid say "Its over, I have the high ground" then cut your opponets ships of there base's" 60pts

ok ill go now
