'Imperial Assault' and new FFG products

By Maelora, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

So.... this is basically like 'Descent 2 for Star Wars'?

It has the same visual aesthetic, even some of the same art... I'm not that fussed, but my players seem psyched for it.

I guess the board parts might come in useful for those who want to use minis occasionally?

And at the risk of being like ErikB and spamming a thread with pictures, I thought the art from 'Mountains of Madness' was really suited to our SW games. I can imagine having to go to remote, alien ruins like these, and we already have a Lara Croft expy anyway.

What I also found hilarious was this: ...even animals that seem harmless may turn against you. Giant Penguins, seemingly innocent and friendly at a distance, can eagerly tear you limb from limb before you realize your danger.

Sorry, Desslok :)

Heh... I have the audio of that, this makes me wonder about translating that into a game where the expedition that fell silent turns out to have Imperials that caused their downfall with the "rescue" team being caught up by an Imperial patrol sent to find out what happened and plausible deniability means the PCs need to escape before their Imperial protectors turn on them in all could be a regular age of rebellion game but with things people weren't meant to know.... ;)

In regards to Imperial Assault it reminds me of the 3.5 dnd box sets they have a map assembled from 4 or so pieces with unpainted minis and a series of adventures, I think it was later they turned to skirmish games well there was those card they included with their released miniatures...

Hmm is FFG planning on releasing a miniatures line to go with Imperial Assault?

Any price given on this yet?

I actually like the Mythos/horror concepts in SW. It wouldn't fit all the time, but it would make a nice change from shooting stormtroopers. Maybe even offer some 'Enemy Mine' opportunities where various factions have to work together.

I assume FFG is looking to expand the Imperial Assault game by the sounds of it, with minis packs and stuff. Descent 2 seems to be a good seller for them and this looks very similar with a SW skin.

...has the girl just discovered the Yellow Sign?

...has the girl just discovered the Yellow Sign?

Yes, yes she has.

Interestingly, though I'd never before considered a Mythos / Star Wars cross-over it works stunningly well. What is that giant thing that rears up out of the asteroid to eat the Millenium Falcon if not a Dhole? What does Star Wars contain if not countless long-forgotten ruins and forgotten planets? What is the Dark Side if not a yawning chasm awaiting the foolish dabbler in the ways of the Force?

Ia! Ia! Sith-Niggurath! Dark Alien of the Void with the Thousand Apprentices!

Have you read the dread Necroholicron, recorded by the mad fringer Abdul Calrissian? And is there any name in creation that sounds less like a Sith lord than "Derleth" ?

This must be done.

To be honest, the SW mythos seems full of ancient, dark alien races and forbidden lore that has long been forgotten.

A F&D campaign seems an ideal place to have sinister cults and creepy monstrous races.

In fact, as our campaign is less about 'good guys and bad guys' this would even help in giving really nasty adversaries to all the factions.

I remember Chortles saying that Aboleth was essentially a Mythos creature, and I'm sure there are other examples.

I have not seen any RPG announcements other than Force and Destiny, have you guys?

They announced the release of the Invasion of Arda, been hoping for a you tube video of the Force & Destiny demo to be honest.

Feels like they're trying to hype up their other releases at the cost of what might be more interesting.

Well in time we might see other people's efforts on you tube so here's hoping!

Just going yo point out that I am betting the other non-Star Wars forums are saying similar things about they seem to constantly be talking about some SW product can they get more on there <blank> product.

My AoR campaign is all about secret societies and clandestine organizations and how the Empire and Alliance both tapped into that existing shadow world out maneuvering one another.

Since I already own a small mountain of Descent 2 products I'm hesitant to get too excited about IA and it's eventual heropack- add-on expansion tsunami. I guess we'll see what my money-to-sense ratio is come spring 2015.

The GenCon coverage of the RPG has been pretty minimal and disappointing. I guess now that the buyer-base is locked and loaded they're focusing on other products, which is just business. Really it's just more books for us at this point. We know what's coming, just a matter of when. Honeymoon is over. Whip out your wallets.

Yeah, but if you look at the upcoming page for RPGs, there is nothing but reprints. Some people had speculated that there would be announcements at GenCon.

I gotta admit I'm surprised as well about the lack of announcement. Of course there is one day left, or they might have a Monday push announced. Regardless, probably a good question for the next podcast if we don't get some kind of announcement.

I get the impression that none of you have ever organized a game line before. ;) They probably had to work themselves silly to get everything out and ready for Gencon. Half of their people are probably tied up there themselves or have been busy gaming and the other half are probably putting their feet up or seeing their partners again saying "phew! now a couple of days off". It's the weekend. Give them a day, no? ;):D

I'd imagine they could have typed something up in the weeks prior to Gencon, so the effort would likely be a left click or two.

Oh, and I say AoR campaign, but there might have been a Sentinel/Shien Expert, sitting at my table for a few weeks now.... ;)

I guess Invasion of Arda is a sequel to Assault on Arda I?
