Skirmish gameplay

By RockSoldier, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

do you think people will play skirmish on larger, Warhammer type tables (in the Star Wars style, but larger maps with custom terrain)?

That is what I would be most interested in

I would, depending how bogged down the game gets when scaled up.

I don't think the current rules for Imperial Assault will be suitable for large-scale games like Warhammer. This game seems to focus more on individual units that each have high variability. Warhammer has rules that support the use of many (sometimes hundreds) of miniatures on larger tables, due to the ability to move them in groups, spread damage out among groups, and various other mechanics. Imperial Assault seems like it will involve too much stat tracking on individual units to make Warhammer-scale games viable.

That being said, I am sure you can still play the game at whatever scale you like. It would probably be epic. Just be prepared to have a very slow game if you want to load up the entire table with figures.

Just making an educated guess, but I'd say it is likely to be more comparable to Kill Team than standard 40K, but with a smaller play area. Lets hope they give more details on it soon.

I know someone is gonna try and play a massive game with load of box sets...bless em! Not my thing, but good luck to them I say.

if they are interested in that, I'd recommend using a whole pile of Star Wars Miniatures (made by WotC), rather than buying mulitple copies of a $100 Imperial Assault core set. The SWM pieces are fairly inexpensive right now, and they're the same size as the IA minis. Use the stats from the IA set, and the WotC minis, and you'd be good to go.

if the game is as popular as I hope it will be, im sure the additional packs will come out fast and plentiful. it shouldn't take long to be able to field a good skirmish game (I hope).
