FFG Article - Scum and Villainy

Huh... I wonder if this means an Ion Cannon can now do upto 2 damage?

Probably not....

It doesn't work. Accuracy Corrector adds die results and ion weapons cancel die results.

I would like to try a new turret card. Heavy Ion Turret.

Range 1-3

Firepower 2.

Points 7

Attack, you may target ships outside of your firing arc. Before damage is dealt to the defender change all crit results to hit results and give the defender 1 Ion token for each hit that has not been canceled.

Boba Fett getting in on those swarms and all up in the face of Outrider titled YT2400s

I would like scum Boba to be in an Imperial List. As I said put limits on mercenaries depending on how large your squadron is. (Also add cannot be used with rebels to Boba.)

Depending on total size is how many points you can spend on S&V mercenaries. Any upgrade attached to S&V ships is considered points spent on S&V ships. (although purist will say "Bounty hunters, we don't need their scum here.")

Squadron size and scum point limit:

100+ points, no more than 40 points of S&V;

75-99 points, no more than 30 points;

60-74 points, no more than 20 points;

less than 60, no more than 15 points;

So I have a question for all y'all MathWingers . . . Does the StarViper make the Defender seem really overcosted, or is it just me??

Just you.

Totally different animals.

Anyway we don't even know what the dial looks like or what the generics cost.

Good to know (I don't have a Defender yet, and have been hearing mixed reviews, so I was just wondering).

The generic Defenders are a little bit overcosted. I think Juggler put it at 6 points before you consider the white K-turn, which is worth a few points, so it's probably closer to 3 points too expensive. The Viper looks like it's closer to the price you'd expect.

Wrong.

Edit: but never mind. Getting contentious over the TIE Defender's value strays from the topic of the thread. I preemptively concede the point and any followups.

Depends greatly on the maneuver dial. As soon as it was previewed we knew that the defender costs more than the value of a 3/3/3/3 stat line, and the assumption is that this represents the value of the white k-turn. The StarViper is cheaper, but it has less HP and we have no idea what its maneuver dial is.

(This of course highlights the problem of jousting values: they can't account at all for things that aren't included in the attack/agility/HP stat line. And therefore you should consider them a rough approximation at best.)

Wow, so many awesome looking new things. So far I'm loving everything I've read. I like the fact we can use some of our existing ships so we're not starting from scratch, whilst providing loads of new stuff. Nicely done FFG :)

I wonder if the alternate Boba Fett is a sign of things to come - people have been suggesting alternate pilot cards (in different ships) for some time now.

That would certainly be interesting. However, I think the main reason there is a new Boba Fett is because his ability just wasn't super useful. In my opinion, he is one of the most underwhelming unique pilots, so now he should see quite a bit more play. Can't wait to use him against a swarm!

Why? Swarms will still not be his ideal opposition as they will still eat up big ships fairly readily, albeit at a slightly slower pace potentially from re-rolls. Note his ability works with friendly ships, not enemies.

You should probably re-read his card...

I did since, and was wondering where I had posted this comment so I could correct myself. My bad.

The generic Defenders are a little bit overcosted.

Based on what they said in the interview, pilot skill is valued differently for different ships. For the TIE defender, low pilot skill is almost as valuable as high pilot skill as it limits the ability to block his K-turn. So low PS is more valuable than it would be for a ship with two Ks and then increasing the PS is less valuable than it would be on, say, a Phantom. Therefore, the difference between a PS1 Defender and a PS8 Brath is seven points. Seven points for 7 PS and Brath's very valuable ability.

The Defenders might be a little bit overcosted, but they're still bloody effective. 3 shields, 3 hull, 3 evade... whack a HLC on them and off you go. Surely they're the undisputed kings of the joust?

Enemies. Not sure where you're getting the friendly ships part.

And are those Deadman Switches in the IG2000?

I was about to start a thread suggesting a 'Deadman's Switch' upgrade for the new faction, but I searched first and found this. I picture it automatically triggering upon the ships destruction and/or an action that causes the ship to explode at the end of the round. I'm thinking all ships in range 1 take 1 Damage. Maybe, make the action version a little stronger, all ships within range 1 roll one attack die if a crit is rolled take a critical hit, else take one damage.
