FFG Article - Scum and Villainy

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

There are no rebel pilot bases or cards in the scum pack and there are no scum bases or cards in the rebel z95 pack. As far as buying ships goes, they might as well be different models. With the exception of 1 unique pilot, you would need as many Z95s from your faction as you have Z95s bought of that type.

Not so - take a look at the pic.

The pack has as mini bases:

  • 2x Slave-1
  • 3x Z-95
  • 2x HWK-290
  • 3x Y-Wing

Obviously, all front-and-back. So you've definitely got enough pure tiles to turn at least one of your Rebel Z-95s into a S&V Z-95 - only the icon on the dial and paintjob on the mini will be different, the base tile/pilot card/upgrades/etc all can be S&V...there's enough dupes for it.

I think they give you 2 Y-wing dials because they've been kind and are giving us 2 lots of Y-wing generics too. The fact that you would have to use a non Most Wanted Y-wing for this sort of implies that you can also use non Most Wanted head hunters, and by proxy non-scum dials.

I don't think giving us 2 Scum Y-wing dials implies they are allowing us to use non-Scum dials for Z-95s at all. All that says is that they are allowing us to use an identical mini with a different paint job, something already allowed by the rules anyways.

If anything, the inclusion of an extra Scum Y-wing dial, and the extra Firespray and HWK dials might imply that they will not be allowing us to use non-Scum dials in Scum lists, because if they were allowing it, there was no need for them the include the extra dials since we already would have dials for those minis if we had them. Emphasis on might though, I'm not saying that is what they are doing! In fact, they might just be being nice and giving us dials so we can have the Scum art.

Until the rules/FAQ update for Wave 6 hits way down the line, we won't know for sure. I'm just putting out a concern I have.

There is an Imperial Star Destroyer on one of the Starviper cards.

So.....

Epic Star Destroyer confirmed?

Since there are 3 named Firesprays, it is not entirely correct that you would have the bases for 2 Firesprays (atleast, not for official events). About the dials, if somebody tell me i can't use a Z95 with a rebel dial as scum while the base is scum, i will perform an act of villainy directed to his ships. Or face.

They probably included new dials because they're nice people who figured you might not want random rebel-marked dials in your Scum Pile.

Help me Santa claus! You are my only hope...

So, I just noticed that IG-2000 can have 2 different cannons. So, HLC and Autoblaster sounds fun. 4 attack dice at long range, or eat the Autoblaster at range 1. Expensive, but fun.

Wave V, Armada, Imperial Assault, now Wave VI.... Dagnabbit FFG I am going to have to take out a 2nd mortgage because of you, you brilliant pains in my wallet!!!!

Don't forget about the Fletchet Cannon (i think it says: If this attack hits the defender suffers 1 damage. If their hull value is -- or less they recive 1 stress token). And the "Mong----" Cannon (when attacking --- may change --- Hit results --- ).

Until we know what the other two cannons do, just positing thoughts on what we do have. All these cannon options I think are going to cause some issues with the Falcons.

Why is no one excited about new HWK stuff? Am I the only one! Argh! :)

I am.

But even though I am, it's easy to forget amidst the massive feast of other stuff that just showed up.

I feel like the game just doubled in scope.

We had 9 ships in each of two factions as of Wave 5; as of Wave 6, we have a third faction with 7 ships. So it didn't double, but it just got 40% bigger.

Funny until now I always thought the front of the IG2000 was the back.

But... but... MORE HWK GOODNESS!

*swoon*

Excuse me, I'll be in my bunk.

Very cool.

So the IG 2000 is a solid kick in the face, Excellent.

This means we can now have 2 waves with say 2 fringe and 1 Imperial 1 Rebel until things catch up. There are also several options for shared ships- the Skipray would make a great Imperial/Fringe, and they could easily do a Rebel/Frine Baudo class yacht to give those two factions a support large ship. It would also bring all 3 factions up to par with 3 large ships each, 2 combat and 1 support.

Skippurchasing Ugboat?

Seems unlikely that it will make it into the game.

Doesn't make sense for what looms to be a named astromech starting with G to be "Goldie" aka R3-S6 does it? Doesn't really make sense timing or lore wise...

I'm still a really new player to X-Wing, so the thought of another entire faction to buy as I'm already building my frist two is mind-blowing, but very cool...

That said, I've seen my fair share of games, and one game in particular popped in my mind when I saw this... L5R. (and maybe old L5R players may get an idea where I'm heading with this)

Does anyone think that there may be the slightest possibility that FFG may introduce rules when both the Rebels or the Empire may "hire" Scum faction ships? Maybe a modified point cost? At first, when I saw those faction counters on IG2000 I thought they could be used to identify who hired him. Obviously hiring IG88 and Boba Fett are entirely within he SW canon, so wouldn't it make sense to replicate that in the tabletop game? (Boba Fett will now technically be filling that role)

Like I stated, I'm still a new player, but it really made me think of Legend of the five Rings card game and rules when hiring "unaligned" personalities.

I was a little disappointed the YT-1300 wasn't included included in the Most Wanted pack.

Yeah, we don't see nearly enough freighters in competitive dogfighting matches.

It's weird. :P

I prefer my hive mind ig-2000 epic build. (FFG us going to suck all my christmas money this year)
