If X-wing and Descent are FFG's best selling games...why no small deck boxes?

By krechevskoy, in X-Wing

Since X-wing and Descent games use so many of the small mini US boardgame sized cards (FFG Yellow), I am surprised why there is no FFG small deck boxes or tuck boxes.

Per the previews it looks like Armada and Imperial Assault use the mini US boardgame sized cards so it is not like there would not be a demand for small deckboxes.

I think krechevskoy is asking why they don't sell deck boxes that are designed to fit the mini cards that come with the games. The card sleeves are fine, but the deck boxes they sell aren't great for mini cards. You either have to put the cards in them in an inconvenient way or do something to fill up the empty space.

Yes, considering the mini cards are standard in Merchants of Venus, Arkham Horror, Descent, X-Wing, and literally every game FFG has ever made, it's maddening that there is no decent storage solution for them. For the regular board games, where your pile of mini cards isn't growing constantly, you can at least put them in small ziplock bags. But for X-Wing (And Armada and Command soon enough), there isn't a decent way.

This is an excellent question. A small deck box would be far higher on my list of accessories to buy than dice bags.

Agreed that FFG should make their own, however I found that the 4oz box from The Container Store is perfect for mini cards with sleeves.

It is frustrating and a bit maddening that no one seems to make card boxes for those size cards. @VorpalSword - I agree, small card boxes would be first on my list of accessories right now, not only for X-Wing but also my Wings of Glory decks.

I just put the mini cards in mini sleeves then put those (broken down by type) in the baggies our ship tokens come in. Those go in a separate card box from my regular cards.

I have found that the ultra-pro side-loading binder works perfectly for storing upgrade cards. Just put two cards, with sleeves, sideways per pocket. Really easy to sort cards and find them quickly when you need them.

A box for the mini cards, especially with how many of them I have, would be a really funny shape. Very long but short and narrow.

Maybe if they were in two rows down the length it might work better.

I asked FFG this very question some months ago and they said they had no plans to produce one, but would take the idea under advisement.

If you take a normal sized deck box, I think you would be able to lay the small cards flat on the bottom (stacking them upwards), then place a piece of form on the top to keep them from bouncing. Not a perfect solution, but it's better than nothing.

I too use the ultra pro folders for upgrades, but I would prefer it if they actually made a folder specifically for the mini cards.

Are those just regular sized card sleeves with 2 cards slid into each one?

I use a plastic card box and they fit just right on their side. These boxes should be fairly easy to get at your FLGS. They will not fit sleeved cards though.

The Ultra-Pro Gamer's Den deckboxes fit them with sleeves on. I just find that the only problem is trying to sift through so many. I am currently looking into ULTRA PRO PLATINUM 12 POCKET Pages 2.5x2.25 Sheets as they look to fit sleeved cards as well, but the FLGS doesn't sell them and I don't want 100 of them if they don't work. Anyone have any experience with the sheets?

Can you confirm? I tried a 100 count Ultra Pro box that won't accomodate sleeved minis.

The link you posted is the same box as in the pic I attached a few posts up. I think Futant420's deck box is this one: Gamer's Den Decj Box. It specifically says it fits sleeved cards.

Yep. That's the one, although I prefer the smoked ones. I would have linked to it, but as I said I'm not 100% ready to have it be my uber solution. I really like being able to see the cards and I like the look of the pages and binders that peeps show off around here, but I cannot have two cards floating in one pouch. Hence the sticker pages. Holds 12 per and it says the pockets are wide enough to accommodate the sleeves on the mini cards. Just can't seem to find any that also have the nice black webbing in the pages.
