Now if I was a betting man I would say its more likely that the reason Epic wasn't announced is because they didn't want to steal the thunder from other new products. I mean a new faction, Armada and Imperial Tactics are just the Star Wars related surprises. We all expect Epic ships to come out, its not really a question of "if", its a matter of when. A new faction, now that's unexpected; Two whole new games in the Star Wars universe... I don't think anyone could have guessed that. I mean when they revealed Armada... I was like "what? ... no way!". Had they announced Epic ships... I think I would have been a lot less excited because frankly, its expected.
Dear FFG
Expect an imperial huge, hopefully with an interceptor and bomber escort, with a CR-90 "conversion kit" for empire.
I like both big and small ships, but please don't combine them into a single package. I'd like to have some choice in how many i buy of each.
Both the Tantive and Transport were announced last year at GenCon... They were released 8 and 9 months later.
So they could be trying to tighten their announcement/release windows.
Not sure how I feel about that... While I like at least knowing something is in the works, 9 months is a pretty long wait.
Yeah I agree. When you do it like that you both create excitement and huge disappointment in the same breath. Imagine the **** storm on these forums if they are like... hey here are the new Epic Imperial Ships you'll get to fly next summer!.. YAY!
Edited by BigKahunaWell, I hope everyone is right and the only reason it wasn't announced is because of all the other stuff in the way. Wave six is pretty big in its own right and Armada is a whole new effort. I just hope all these new things don't crowd out the thing I care about the most. Time shall tell.
I think with the announcement of Armada that Fantasy Flight has no intentions of building more huge ships for x wing,
I think anyone who thinks FFG shoved armada out the door to satisfy people who have been asking for star destroyers for a few months now and also means no new epic ships for this game really has no concept of what it takes to design a game. Armada was being developed long before any of us saw a transport or corvette....just like wave six was being developed at the same time z-95's were being developed for wave four
I think with the announcement of Armada that Fantasy Flight has no intentions of building more huge ships for x wing,
Aren't you the same that proclaimed hell would freeze over before we ever saw a 3rd faction.
Epic ships for imperial is as enviable as them adding new ships from the upcoming movie.
Ok, but the game isn't over, it has a long life ahead, so we need to wait to the Imperial huge ships, maybe FFG need to see how the huge ships sells, and later they give us the Imperial huge ships, I really want to mplay with that, greettings.
This actually makes sense, & makes me feel at peace. :-) Thank you.
Like you said, with the rebels, we are finding out what works & what doesn't. What we like & don't like. Plus the fact that most things that the imperials had, were always bigger & better. Or if they weren't, they just swarmed.
Plus those pictures you posted also seem right. What if they are using Armada as an extra info & playtesting resource. To get the looks just right, & fine tune the controls & stats.
That's awesome. I was honestly really bummed about it but now I'm excited & have high hopes again.
Plus with all of these new games out, I can have fun while I'm waiting lol! Sweet!
Thanks for that comment! :-)
... I want to add one more thing I just realized.
Ask yourself what is the biggest ship the Imperials have right now...
Then ask yourself, would FFG want people not to buy it because
they would rather buy or wait to buy the announced Imperial Huge ships?
I was thinking just now of how I am going to enjoy fielding a VT-49 Decimator because it will be the largest Imperial ship I will have. I am going to tear apart my CR90 opponents, ... with two of them maybe even.
But just like the transport I have, and have used only once because I bought both the CR90 and GR75 at the same time, where as the CR90 which I have use about a half dozen times, if Huge Imperial ships were released at the same time as the VT-49 Decimator (not likely but an example for the perspective) and you bought them at the same time, which would you use?
Let's face it, you now have plenty of time to enjoy the VT-49 Decimator and hone your skills with it before you buy your Imperial Huge ships and put the VT-49 Decimator on the shelf.
Obi-Wan: But Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future.
Qui-Gon Jinn: But not at the expense of the moment. Be mindful of the living Force, young Padawan
In the mean time, before any of that is available to me here
I'm going to enjoy making use of the spoiled cards which I print out, and this,
for my Scum and Villainy CR90 and DP20.

Edited by gabe69velasquezThe rumor is that there is an Imperial corvette-sized ship in the makings, but then again don't forget about 3rd faction now they need an epic scale ship.
; P
Edited by MarinealverI think a third faction doesn't does show FFG commitment to Imperiam/Scum epics but continued support for basic.
I share the OPs doubts we just want to know IF there are more epics don't need WHATS at this point
And then there's the question no one has asked...what about Scum and Villainy Epic ships?
I was thinking about that this morning. If they go on with the Epic line, they should released Epic also for the third faction (and for any further faction they could be wantng to release).
Not that this means bad, uh?
I want a Mon Calamari huge ship so bad...
Who is going to pay 250 /$500 for a ship like that? It will cost about $250 a foot to make. They even had to scale down the CR-90 for the game. I'm wondering what Empire ships that you would want that are in or around that scale?

Well I have to ask if they are going to release imp huge ships, and they are waiting to announce it closer to release then why did they release the rebels huge ships so far-away from the Imps.
It kind of sucks to have to wait over a year, or year and a half just to have imperial huge ships alongside the rebels.
If they are working on something, and it is this far behind the rebels, then why not hold back in the rebel ships.
If your going to introduce a new type of gameplay, wouldn't it make sense to release for both sides around the same time?
Rather than release for one side and have the new format rather one sided?

But if it's something you guys have in the works, could you make an announcement for it or even a teaser post showing a single upgrade card that reads "Imperial huge ship only".
We, but more specifically I, need something, anything, to keep my hopes up, & the dream of one day flying Rexlar Brath, Soontir Fel, and everyone else alongside a imperial epic ship.
I come from the school of thought that you don't announce things until they're pretty much finished development. Otherwise, you'll get exactly four minutes between the time of your announcement and the time someone complains about it.
My issue here is that for a big event such as GenCon, you get products ready so they can be announced.... So in short, you announce and release when a product is ready, its simple as that.
It's simple, those that got announced got priority. Now, it may be a bit far to say that those that didn't get announced are being dropped, but the lack of any message on the Epic front does seem to indicate FFG is de-emphasizing Epic play.
That's a consumer perception, not a product development reality. When something is not ready, you don't make announcements, that's just good business. The amount of speculation that takes place among fans who have ZERO information to go on is astounding, but it is largely disregarded because its just that, speculation and everyone knows it. When people have partial or incomplete information as a result of a developer announcing something prematurely however is almost always disastrous. Having your product discussed, reviewed, judged and scrutinized while its in an unfinished form is a guarantee.
I mean just look at what's already happened. Based on blurry photos of cards that will be in the third faction people are already discussing the merits and flaws of individual ships, cards, the faction as a whole. Hell people talk about Armada like they have already played it, I've already seen "first impression reviews" of Armada based on watching 20 second YouTube clips of other people playing it.
Point is, until its ready you don't say anything.. EVER.
This is exactly how FFG does business. Extensive design changes and playtesting happen many months before the announcement. They literally show us this everytime they do make an announcement with the spread images that include everything that will come to that ship. All of that card text has already been finalized BEFORE the announcement is made, meaning that it has been in the design phase for quite some time and is very near release quality.
So basically, it took me five sentences to say that I agree with you guys.
I kind of hope that they don't include any more epic ships.
This is dogfight stuff. The closest a Star Destroyer should be on the table is by BEING the gaming area with rules for a handful of turrets in place of asteroids.
You want capital ships? Armada looks very cool. The CR-90 is so fast by comparison to the other ships.
The VT is probably as big as it should get. 3 VTs vs a CR-90? Probably an even match.
I'd rather see their time and effort in more appropriate designs and releases.

One of the many things I really like about FFG is we know what we're getting, and we know well in advance.
I believe the consensus regarding Epic play so far is that it's great fun, but the Epic scale ships seem underpowered compared to an equivalent number of standard ships. And I think that's a good thing. I'd much rather FFG deliberately underpowered the Epic ships and made them more effective over time than release some ridiculously overpowered ship that completely alters the flow of the game.
I'm happy FFG avoided GW's approach with Apocalypse. "I have a D-weapon - here's a dustpan and brush, please remove half your army from the board". What fun that game is.
Now all that said, the X-Wing community has only been playing the Epic scale rules and with Epic scale ships for, what, 4 months now? I've seen Epic campaign weekends and tournaments offered by several LGS, and although I haven't had chance to take part I'm sure FFG are monitoring the Epic version of the game closely, and when they do eventually release the Imperial Epic ships they'll use it as an opportunity to tweak the game for the better.
Edited by FTS GeckoI see your point and your right the huge ships are not that strong which is why I would like to see imp huge ships.
When I field the Tantive and my few escorts, it is pretty hard to win when your highly outnumbered.
I don't want a ship that obliterate my opponent either.
It just feels like it's not complete without imp huge ships.
I've said this a lot but with so few escorts and one huge ship doesn't seem like it's enough when your opponent has three shuttles and a Firespray coming at you all with hlc. Plus ties, squints and whatever else
I don't know. I'm still disappointed with no announcement, but am hoping for one.
But still I think that if imp huge ships are in development and are that far behind from the rebels, wouldn't it have made more sense to have the release between the two 4-6 months apart rather than a year or more?
Edit
It always seemed to me that when they have released something for this game they always had something for both sides, not just one.
Maybe I'm alone on this, but when they had two huge ships come out for the rebels, I assumed imp huge ships weren't that far behind.
It's so far the one and only time in xwing I believe that they released something for one side and not the other
Edited by Krynn007What you posted makes perfect sense. As much as I love the Vt, you're absolutely right, it would take a back seat to the epic ship if they had released one.
This way we get to enjoy it to the fullest, before getting a epic ship. Also it does help ease the waiting time lol.

This question is asked and answered here, if I remember right it is in the Q&A part that starts 54 min in:
You're right, they do address it there. :-)
Empire will have epic. Just bide your time comrades.
In a lot of ways in this video other then the obvious answer to the question is a good explanation why they don't announce or reveal products that are not finalized. It is indeed their job to "delight and surprise" us with great products, but the impact of that is only satisfactory when its clear that said product is going to get released in the very near future and the reveal is substantial (another words, revealing pictures, videos and information that is finalized). Doing so prematurely, for example announcing "yes there will be an epic Imperial ship, it will be X class ship, but sorry we have no pictures and the models aren't ready yet and no we don't know when it will be ready" is to excite and delight us while in the same breath disappointing us.
FFG clearly has their **** together and they know their customers well, even knowing the difference between what we say we want and what we actually want. Clearly while we are all excited to find out what the Epic ships will be and we would love to get information about that, revealing to us now without a clear vision is most definitely not what we want.
So as already said.. patience.. Its coming, there is no doubt (Im no sure why there ever was) that Imperial Epic ship are coming with 100% certainty .
It kind of sucks to have to wait over a year, or year and a half just to have imperial huge ships alongside the rebels.
The Corvette was released in May--that's three months ago. A year and a half from May 2014 will be November 2015.
