Regarding those Scum Z-95s

By magadizer, in X-Wing

I have seen a couple of people reference the idea that they are glad they didn't buy too many Rebel Z-95s, since there will be the Scum ones forthcoming. But if the pattern of previous releases holds, (for example, no Alpha cards in the Imperial Aces box) there won't be any way to double up on the fact that Z's are dual faction. Unless they break pattern and include generic Rebel cards in with the Scum package, you might as well consider those two different types of ships.

So if you want to field a massive 8Z Rebel swarm, you still need 8 Rebel Z-packs.

Am I missing something?

Maybe you will be able to use the unique pilots or different pilots if you have the proper pilot card and base chit and the alternate model.

I don't remember which pilots are on the same Rebel chits, but I'm pretty sure Bandit and Tala are on different cards--and if not that means one chit is Bandit/Tala and the other is Cracken/Blount. Either way you'll be able to run more Rebel Zs than you have Rebel Z expansions, although you won't be able to do every combination.

Repaints are repaints, it's still a Z-95 model. I can use my rebel ones for Bandit Sqadron pilots and the repaints for Tala Squadron pilots.

I think it really depends on the Scum rules in general- will we be able to use our Rebel/Imp (Firespray) pilots in a Scum list, or are they only allowing Scum pilots to be played in a Scum list?

Ok, if you factor in uniques, it does help. I was thinking in terms of the maximum swarm, because of something someone else said.

But you still can't run more generics than you have Rebel expansions.

That's true. The paint job shouldn't matter. I think you will be able to do exactly that. You just won't be able to run 4 Bandits that way. (Without proxy cards of course).

I know one thing for sure, when I'm playing Rebels, Blount or Cracken are always gonna be the white one. Those things are gorgeous

From what I've seen of the Rebel Aces there is nothing in that pack which will keep you from running any of them you like. Two different ships with two unique pilots each and I'll assume the two standard generic pilots on the back. Imperial Aces may not have included the two lowest rated Interceptor Pilots but how often are you seeing those used? My biggest complaint about Imperial Aces is that the Royal Guard tiles are backed by uniques so you couldn't run all the "Red Guard ships" even if you had two other expansions.

Perhaps I'm alone in this but I certainly hope that those new Z-95s and Y-Wing will have some "easy" way to play with their aligned counterparts.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that too. I doubt they're going to be mercenaries for hire, though.

Yeah, I don't forsee any problem mixing Scum-painted Z-95s and Rebel-painted Z-95s in the same list; the issue is gonna be having enough of the Pilot chits to go on the bases. Right now I only have 1 of each Wave 4 ship...I need to get some more money and get at least a second of each.

I'm just wondering about tournament rules- if FFG will allow players who have multiple ships (z95s/HWKs, etc..) bought as Rebel expansions to fly them in a Scum list, at least the generic pilots. I'm fine with not having pilots that are thematically Rebel allowed (Cracken, Salm) but would like to be able to use my three current Headhunters as well as the Most Wanted versions.

I was going to pick up a second HWK soon to repaint, but I'm going to wait now to see what the decision on this question will be- I really don't need/want to buy two Most Wanted packs just to play both HWKs.

Actually it makes sense for them to do that now. I say this because they are targetting two ships that really need it. The Y-wing has been needing some love for a while having most of it's spotlight stolen by the B-wing, and the Z-95 does not really have much in the way of options.

Though I think one question worth asking is what about pilots? This will be the first instance where we are going to see two factions using the same ships. Could we potentially see pilots who can fly for multiple factions? For example would IG-88, as he is a bounty hunter potentially fly not just for the Scum and Villainy faction, but for the empire too? Or maybe some of the Y-wing, HWK-290, and Z-95 pilots might be able to fly for both S&V and the rebels.

You know, I think I'm actually more excited about using the Z-95's in the Scum faction than I've been about using them with the Rebels. OK, so yes - the Rebel forces historically used the Z-95's, but they had essentially been phased out in favour of the X-Wing by the time Episode IV came around.
"Time to retire those old Z-95s!"
- Raymus Antilles, after seeing the T-65 X-wing starfighter

They even became something of a running joke amongst seasoned Rebel pilots:

"You gotta love the Z-95. Nothing beats the feeling of power they give you."
- Unknown Bandit Squadron pilot
However - they were ubiquitous throughout the EU. Civil authorities used them. Mercenary groups used them. Bounty Hunters used them. Pirates used them. And I really can't wait to see them used in this role in the game - it just feels right. Plus, those Black Sun logos look sweet.
"As long as they keep on making upgrades for this baby, the Z-95 will never become outdated."

****.

Guess I might be buying two Most Wanted then. That is much less cool now. But still alright I guess.

You will need the pilot card with the S&V symbol on, and the corresponding ship token.

If there are two models in the pack, I can't imagine them not giving you two sets of generic cards and tokens for the faction. Just look at Imperial aces for the precedent.

With my two z95s and these two I'll be able to run two tala and two bandit squadrons. I'm not concerned about generic Hawks, as they are a named pilot ship hands down. That said, it does create some awkwardness in the collection, but nothing too bad. If I can't run dual golds or Gold and Dutch I'll live. I'll run grey and Dutch. Or grey and gold when I need two rebel Ywings.(Not that I ever expect to...

I guess if they give two generic per ship in Most Wanted I can use all three of my other Z-95s and my extra Y-wing decently. Just have one of the five be a S&V named Headhunter...

You'll definitely get 2 of the S&V generics, but the question is will they include the corresponding rebel generics. I think they will not. It would be awesome if they did it, but why give you essentially two z's for free? I mean then there would be almost zero incentive to buy more than one vanilla z expansion.

Having said that, it would be entirely feasible to have room on the "conversion" card sheets that contain the Firespray and HWK chits to put three more chits for rebel generics. It's just highly unlikely.

This is going to be the New swarm... Z95 scum swarm.

Think I seen something almost the same somewhere...
