W/GenCon Today, are all the SKUs spoken for?

By R22, in X-Wing

We've had a number of SKUs out for awhile now but many left as ? and in different orders. I haven't seen anybody comment on this yet: Are they all spoken for now? I thought I saw SKUs listed on the display case labels of Wave 6. Can anybody organize the list now and plug in the new releases? Whatever it reveals would be interesting.

There were four SKUs unaccounted for between Wave 5 and Rebel Aces, and they match the four S&V products announced today.

EDIT: Now I can't find an image to double-check against, but I'm pretty sure.

Okay, so next question: How long ago were the SKUs for Wave 5 & 6 up? Because that will give us an idea of how far in the future these ships were being planned.

Well, Rebel Aces was announced March 18th, which is the earliest we'd have been aware of the SKU gap unless I'm mistaken.

Math-Wingers unite! I am keeping this thread in my links for future fun stuff .

I did that SKU list back in March and it had up to Rebel Aces then, so at least that long.

As I've said many times in the past... FFG plays the long game here, folks. It's not like they're pulling these releases out of a Bantha feed bag at random.

BoardGameGeek was using their Twitter feed to report on the Q&A at the In Flight Report. I think Christian Petersen said that they plan production 3 years out - they are pretty locked-in to the next 18 months and have some flexibility after that.

Oh I fully agree. Production takes a *long* time. I've always mainted that and I don't quite get folks who think it's a few weeks or months from start to finish for an individual product. Never mind just coming up with the core stats for a new fighter, there's product design, model making, testing it for a production piece, fixing the model so you can recast it, work out the stats, play test it, re-work the stats, re-play test it, design the plastic packaging that the product comes in, get the re-worked model then adjust the packing, design the box art, design the card art, re-design the card art, work on a dozen other games and expansion that are all in their life-cycle in other product lines/mixes that the company has because someone else who was responsible those things got sick/quit/got married/went on vacation/whatever, and that's just a few parts of it off the top of my head. Oh yeah, and communicate all that to a factory in China and hope it comes off without a hitch. Then ship it halfway around the world, and get it out to all the local game shops... only to have someone ***** that it ruined the game because it wasn't tested.

Or you know... just pull it out of a magic box a few weeks after you thought of it, and bring it to market.
