I thought I liked star wars alot. Scum and Villainy just makes me think of that Obi Wan quote. Is this group from the novels, the old mmo? Help a guy who saw the first movie in the theater in '77 make some sense of why I should be excited. Thanks in advance.
It's not just one group, so much as the entire rest of the galaxy .
As noted in the other thread...
As the prequels made clear - the Galaxy isn't evenly split into "Rebel" and "Imperial" systems. Indeed, there are HUGE swaths of it (the entire outer rim) where the concept of centrally managing the systems is basically unrealistic.
The thing that made 'Star Wars' so interesting WAS those gray areas. The 'wretched hives of scum and villainy' that lurk in every corner. The distant systems where the Empire and Rebellion are all 'such a long way from here'.
Indeed, MOST of the Star Wars setting would fall into this category, so...we've previously been focused on a rather small portion of it. This gives us a part of the rest of it!
That's what I always liked about the setting, was how much background there was OUTSIDE of the simple 'Rebels vs Empire' fight. Entire cartels of criminals going about their business (such as the Hutt's - whose hold on the outer rim was so strong that Republic credits "were no good here", as Watto argued), systems joining some alliances or others, trade organizations, corporations owning entire planets and systems, unexplored regions...
It's a big, big galaxy, and the Rebellion and Empire were only ever a portion of it!
