Print on Demand rules

By ProtoPersona, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm posting this for some more visibility for a thread made over on BGG, found here: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1218851/warning

My position is similar to the OPs there. FFG is justified in not printing the rules, for a number of reasons. Both the OP and I agree that it's not that the documentation wasn't included that's an issue, but that there's no warning that the rules and scenario guide aren't in the package until after you've bought and opened it . At this point only the friendliest of gaming stores is gonna let you return or exchange it.

It's sounds like a simple solution to most people, since home printers are so common in the US. Personally I don't have decent access to one currently, so this requirement actually is an admittedly small problem that ultimately adds to the cost of the game.

I've always had the expectation that games I buy will have all the materials for it included in the package, which just isn't the case here. My hope is that in the future FFG will be able to communicate about the need to print the materials on the outside of the package.

While I don't actually disagree with you - I think you're right, FFG should warn people on the outside, not the inside, of the box.

At the same time, I imagine that the Venn diagram showing people who spend hundreds of dollars on a game like Descent and people who do not have access to a tablet or a printer has a very, very small point of overlap. Again, I don't actually think you're wrong, and I'm sorry that it impacted you personally, but I think FFG has much, much greater faults to answer for.

It's not the impact that's of concern to me. Stuff happens, I can move on. It just seems like the kind of thing that would be good to bring up for FFGs benefit in the future so they can improve their packaging and avoid the whole issue down the line.
