I think I've seen Ferguson's PD wearing these...
New Stormtroopers- official look!
and re lightsabre fights.
Yoda used to be quite cool, i sort of imagined that in the clone wars he was a *little* less hunched and more youthfull, ok its only like 20 years but its the difference between being 50 and 70...
His fight with dooku was just embarassing, it was like he was in a pinball game and someone kept smashing the flippers at random.
I just couldnt take that seriously at all. It wasnt even bad enough to be funny and i love truly bad film. It was just mediocre.
I collect 'bad' film, when people say they saw a s*** film last night, what they mean is they saw an average to poor film.
Unless you've seen 'bronx warriors', 'zombie flesh eaters 2 or 3' 'ninja terminator' or 'ilsa she wolf of the ss' you've no idea what *really* bad film is.
Personally I really liked the inventive "flavor" of saber duel the "little" guy brought. It was a bit crazy and hard to follow but sort of made sense how a 2' jedi would fight 6' opponents. Honestly a straight up dual would probably be boring since there would be little variation of height (swing at the feet is 1 foot away from the head).
I do agree with you about the age thing... he seems spry for a someone who in 20 years can hardly walk without a cane. Even more perplexing is that Yoda is about 900 years old, so one could assume 20 years doesn't explain the "fast" decline of health... Yet he is an alien so who knows.
While I do think Sith could be the best of the prequels, I think poor acting and "love" interest really brings it down. Not to mention Anakin's change to the dark side was sudden and seemed "whipped up". One moment he is trying to fight evil sith lords and then next he is killing kids...
In Star Wars the technology has existed for many thousands of years without major advancements.
My fist isn't going through my monitor, no matter how hard I try. This is what I hated about KOTOR and always will.
And people just...
Accept it.
Wait, willing suspension of disbelief in Science Fiction??!?
What the heck has the world come too?!?!

True... but he does make an "age" comment to Luke on his death bed "When 900 years old, you reach… Look as good, you will not.”.
But your example is noted, that almost anything can be the case and really its a small issue if any, something like that wouldn't change my opinion of the movie... Chalk it up to "its the movies" .

Well I say don't fix what ain't broke.
So... Don't ever advance technology? Like ever?
No. Just don't re-do technology.
I like the notion of going back to McQuarrie's designs and using those as inspirations for new stuff.
But why completely re-invent the X-Wing, and still (apparently) call it an X-Wing?
I feel this has all the hallmarks of a JJ Abrams re-boot, a la the horrific Star Trek movies he's made. Change for change's sake, and wall-to-wall explosions for 2.5 hours straight! That may be exciting as a Summer Blockbuster, but it is not Star Trek. I think he's going the same route here. Going back to the original source material and re-imagining something completely different. I do hope I'm wrong, but I am bracing for impact...
I also have some trouble with the Empire still "business as usual" 35 years after Endor. The evil animating force behind the Empire was destroyed. We saw the celebrations of liberated peoples all across the galaxy, including on Coruscant.
I can't imagine that the Alliance to Restore the Republic hasn't gotten it done yet.
It's called the X-Wing for simplicity's sake and it's not at all a total re-invention. It'll be called something besides the T-65.
And of course it's not going to be business as usual. It didn't just stop f**king existing when the Death Star blew up. Of course it exists, and it's a big, BIG galaxy.
God knows The Empire has thousands of places to hide. Also a lot of the celebrations- especially coruscant, were violently put to a halt by existing Imperial Authorities.
The entire story of the Rise of the Empire is fraught with Palpatine's behind the scenes skullduggery and manipulation.
I understand your RAGE at the thought that the Empire died completely that day over Endor...I don't mean to suggest that. The Empire was broken and in shambles, however, IMO.
The fire and malevolence was gone...35 years should be long enough to have mopped up the rest.
Frankly, many of the Imperial Naval Officers were also Republic Naval Officers; many could be kept around.
After Endor the road would likely still be a long and treacherous one, but probably more political problems than military ones.
The Senate could re-convene, even if not on Coruscant right away, and lend a legitimacy to the political process moving forward.
The snowballing effects of systems joining the "New Republic" or, probably more appropriately, the "Republic" no doubt only accelerated after the Emperor's demise.
I just don't like that 35 years after all of that we're still stuck in the same place.
It is a long galactic nightmare! The Empire took less time to rise, with a Sith Lord pulling the strings behind the scenes. The collapse could surely come about as quickly.

The Roman Empire took hundreds of years to decline. It had powerful emperors die, weak and incompetent ones rise... it even had a massive paradigm shift when Christianity came into it rocking the everyday persons faith in a pantheon of a dozen gods.
That was the worlds most powerful empire on one planet taking hundreds of years to lose its dominion... and *technology* wise and militarily they were pretty much the 'imperials' and most Germanic tribes were ewoks.
I dont think 35 years for a galactic empire with local overlords to break down is a long time.
I mean its not like palpatine was on the phone to every moff every night micro managing how they ran their system, they were supposed to be fairly autonomous IIRC.
As for the midichlorians vs hand thing... cybernetics have been part of 'star wars' from day one, Kenobi says vader is 'more machine than man' early into the OT iirc. But i think stopping the force being 'mystical' took star wars away from the awesomeness it has , the esoteric, mysterious nebulous qualities that are hinted at in the OT and makes it an infection essentally... bang... its a bit like giving gandalf a machine gun because fireballs are a bit too arty farty.....

You assume that people understood what was going on. So far as TRILLIONS of people are concerned, the Rebellion was a terrorist group who assassinated dear leader. 35 years to convince the galaxy that your terrorist organization responsible for the deaths of millions is an acceptable government is going to be incredibly difficult. We still see Neo-Nazis to this day. Stabilizing a freaking galaxy and dealing with the economic fallout of a regime change is going to give the Empire all kinds of support. The Empire not being around 35 years later would be far stupider than having them still be a major antagonist.

Yeah the majroitwas full of good Imperials that liked that life style. Also the Empire was in like 2-4 mini galaxies plenty of places to go. Also just because Stormy is in EPVII doesnt mean he is the enemy in the film, though he prob is.

Unless you are going for the hopeful Space Opera vibe that is Star Wars.
This is the same "Hard Sci Fi" versus "Space Opera" question again, this time not applied to Tech, but politics.
I doubt very many top officers in the Imperial Navy considered the Emperor a friendly figure. Surely not his right hand man, Vader. Lots of careers (and lives) ended by those two. The source and motivation for the fear that has gripped the Imperial Military (not to mention the civilian galaxy) is gone. Big changes could happen very quickly. Especially in Star Wars.
Thats a fair point.
But then you have EU character like Thrawn who extend similar fear and power and don't forget system governers an moffs are unlikely to go 'palpatine dead? oh well i'll sell the luxury mansion and live with the proles' I'd imagine they would hang onto their control as long as possible.
But again i'm probably thinking too 'real world' again.
I dont think lucas really ever knows what he wants.
originally the three films were called epIV to EVVI because he wanted a 30s 'flash gordon' style start 'in media res' straight into the action and like you were watching a saturday instalment of a soap. he's recorded in the past as saying he never wanted to do a prequel and there was never intended to be one.
He clearly changed his mind (big tax bill maybe?) and all of a sudden its *always* been about the story of anakin from start to finish.. so not only do we get three very mediocre films (not bad, just not great) we also get prequel characters CGI's into the OT (like the replaced anankin ghost) and we also get it all 'wrapped up' nicely by having the cgi galactic celebration put in so its all cleanly resolved... empire dead, senate restored, girl gets boy and a family re-united... perfect
Untill you need some more money.... ![]()

Timeline thing?
If the next film is even a decade on from the plot of RotJ then the empire might have revised their kit after suffering a big defeat.
making a 'real world' analogy here but some stuff stays in service for decades (US M1 helmets) other stuff about a decade before it's revised (uk Mk6 helmets)

Running with scissors in here is nott safe...Roman Empire died from greed and power hungry politicians that had no military savy for reallity...I will agree that watching Yoda on a crank / steroid duel with Duke was redundant to say the least...You can never deystroy evil ; it is always waiting to come back with a vengence...Ohhh and new Stormtroopers look good...
