New Stormtroopers- official look!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Guys I think that hand thing is legit.

But that would be awful.

More awful than teddybears heavily assisting in the defeat of the galaxy's strongest military force, and the decision making that allowed The Millennium Falcon to be flown into a space station at friggin 150+MGLTs?

That bad?

Trilogies innit....

ANH.. very good, ESB epic RotJ Allright with bits put in to appeal to a wider fanbase (and slightly younger)

Mad max was the same, first ones really gritty but wears a bit, 2nd one is epic, third one is good then gets a bit silly with the tribe of kids.

i'd like to think of a third example to back up this off the top of my head theory but i'm epically failing and I can see this argument about to crash down around me.

Prequels went the other way... Ep1 was terrible and a massive dissapointment, i can barely remember ep2 it left zero impresion on me. Ep3 got a bit dark and proper 'star wars' again.

I must be one of the few who actually think that Jedi's only bring awfulness to the movies when in mass. Same with the games. I loved playing SWG before the hologrind (SWGEMU rocks). But well, that's also personal preference, since i like more the edge of empire thematic when it comes to star wars, followed by the empire vs rebel struggle, but i like how the force wasn't as dominant and prevalent on pretty much everything in the old trilogy.

I like the helmet, it looks smooth. Hard science or tech was never tied to Star wars designs in the very place, so i find it perfect.

I approve the new design. It flows as a natural evolution of the old one. Keep on Abrams.

Precisely!

Far far worse.

Yeah, more awful. It;s just a stupid and uninteresting story line ignoring re-entry. Who doesn't want to see the Jedi order re-forming as opposed to luke growing a massive beard in a swamp on degobah?

I don't, because the Jedi Order is F**KING BORING. We've had enough Jedi and Sith conflicts to last us a lifetime- let's get back to the more ordinary characters for a while, aye?

F**king love Episode III.

That is, to me, the magic of the old trilogy. As in, there wasn't magic freakin' everywhere and lightsabers were a fairly rare sight. I hate this oversaturation of Jedi and force users, because there's so much more to this wonderful universe.

Why?

Well I say don't fix what ain't broke.

Well I say don't fix what ain't broke.

One of the things that was most boring about the prequels is the lightsaber battles, you had three in the OT and each was not just a battle but a clash of ideologies.

In the prequels it just became yet another cgifest, and that fight between obi and ani went on so long it just became out right boring, and the end "i have the high ground" was just terrible.

All the pivotal fights in the prequels were cool, but the misc. ones... Eh.

Well I say don't fix what ain't broke.

I'm just so glad they're working with actual, physical materials again instead of relying on CGI. Puppets, costumes, sets, armour, ships... real effect > computer generated, every single time. I just wish they could roll back time and remove all the "extras" that there thrown into the original trilogy... or at least give us an "original theatrical cut" version.

This. SO MUCH THIS!!!

It would so good to have the original star wars films digitally re-mastered so we could enjoy it on blu-ray Mmmmmm yes

and re lightsabre fights.

Yoda used to be quite cool, i sort of imagined that in the clone wars he was a *little* less hunched and more youthfull, ok its only like 20 years but its the difference between being 50 and 70...

His fight with dooku was just embarassing, it was like he was in a pinball game and someone kept smashing the flippers at random.

I just couldnt take that seriously at all. It wasnt even bad enough to be funny and i love truly bad film. It was just mediocre.

I collect 'bad' film, when people say they saw a s*** film last night, what they mean is they saw an average to poor film.

Unless you've seen 'bronx warriors', 'zombie flesh eaters 2 or 3' 'ninja terminator' or 'ilsa she wolf of the ss' you've no idea what *really* bad film is.

You like bad films have you ever heard of the cinema snob, he reviews them and does a few other shows.

No but i'll try and look him up.

I really love low budget b movies with no continuity, borderline plot presence and dire special effects.

I can heartily recommend 'fatal deviation' it's Irelands only Kung Fu movie. It s cross between 'enter the dragon' and 'father jack'

Ludicrously bad, the bit where the main actor genuinely crashes his car and they kept it in is the only convincing scene in the entire film... oh and it has a cameo appearance from Micky from Boyzone in it... and its obvious he's not even in the same studio as the other actors... comedy gold!

Oh and of course 'the room' , but while that is the epitome of bad and funny in its own unintentional way its also pretty slow paced and boring and until you have seen it once and start spotting the really hilarious stuff its not initially *that* bad compared to fatal deviation.

Also 'jesus christ vampire hunter' is intentionally low budget and bad but pretty high up on my 'awful movies' list. It only really fails because its trying to be awful whereas the other were genuinely made by people who thought they were the next Spielberg

anyway i digress....

Ever see Plan 9 from Outer Space... you want bad movies, it's so bad it became a cult classic.. lol

Oh yeah Ed Wood.. guys a legend!

I've just finished reading 'the disaster artist' , its a book about the making of 'The Room' by Greg Sestero who was pretty much pressured into acting and line producing it.... funniest book ive read in years.

makes watching 'The Room' excruciatingly funny when you know why it's such a disaster.

So... Don't ever advance technology? Like ever?

Maybe not. Part of the original Star Wars signature look was its "used future" aesthetic. In Star Wars the technology has existed for many thousands of years without major advancements. Certain areas, yes, but as a whole, the galaxy has not changed all that much.

Has anyone asked yet, why the look should be changed at all? I like the idea of returning to the concept art, but there is a reason they modified the designs to their final form for the movie.

I'd have thought a lot of it was budget and practibility.

Like early stormtrooper armour in ANH was very cheap vac formed white plastic that split easily IIRC.

I think a lot of shapes were changed so things were not cracking all the time.

and re lightsabre fights...

...couldn't agree more.

The lightsabre fights in the original series had meaning, menace and character.

The lightsabre fights in the prequels were essentially (over) choreographed dance routines.

Got another picture. So far it checks out, guys.

LOVE IT.

Not a fan...

My fist isn't going through my monitor, no matter how hard I try. This is what I hated about KOTOR and always will.

And people just...

Accept it.

Well I say don't fix what ain't broke.

So... Don't ever advance technology? Like ever?

No. Just don't re-do technology.

I like the notion of going back to McQuarrie's designs and using those as inspirations for new stuff.

But why completely re-invent the X-Wing, and still (apparently) call it an X-Wing?

I feel this has all the hallmarks of a JJ Abrams re-boot, a la the horrific Star Trek movies he's made. Change for change's sake, and wall-to-wall explosions for 2.5 hours straight! That may be exciting as a Summer Blockbuster, but it is not Star Trek. I think he's going the same route here. Going back to the original source material and re-imagining something completely different. I do hope I'm wrong, but I am bracing for impact...

I also have some trouble with the Empire still "business as usual" 35 years after Endor. The evil animating force behind the Empire was destroyed. We saw the celebrations of liberated peoples all across the galaxy, including on Coruscant.

I can't imagine that the Alliance to Restore the Republic hasn't gotten it done yet.

Little undecided on the new helmet, really unsue about the snow trooper. BUT in a massive positive it is actual armour. All the clone troopers were full CGI which was incredibly sad. No great troopers like the one that walked into the door on the Death Star, they couldn't see where they were going or shooting but **** the originals had character.

It's called the X-Wing for simplicity's sake and it's not at all a total re-invention. It'll be called something besides the T-65.

And of course it's not going to be business as usual. It didn't just stop f**king existing when the Death Star blew up. Of course it exists, and it's a big, BIG galaxy.

God knows The Empire has thousands of places to hide. Also a lot of the celebrations- especially coruscant, were violently put to a halt by existing Imperial Authorities.

Well I say don't fix what ain't broke.

As for the X-wing. How many corvette designs are there? Answer, a lot. And they all look different. So this is the T-1000-63 Xwing rather than the T65. That happens with Tech. Look flr reasons behind things rather than complain about them.

You da' man, Aminar.
