Developing List: Back in Black

By Gather, in X-Wing

4x Black Squadron Pilot, w/ Predator

2x Black Squadron Pilot, w/ Intimidation

Thoughts?

Seems good. I've had fun previously trying BSP w/ Predator x5 + BSP w/ Draw Their Fire, and this seems like a solid improvement, assuming you're able to time your approaches to concentrate fire on intimidated ships.

I personally want to try:

  • Howlrunner
  • BSP w/ Ruthlessness x4
  • BSP

The ruthlessness chain could be absolutely devastating. If your opponent flies his ships split apart to avoid it, he runs the risk of getting devoured by the concentrated firepower of a 6 TIE swarm and if he flies them together, you can focus fire on his low AGI ships and potentially inflict severe/deadly firepower on his commrades (including evasive ships and low HP ships), all at PS4. Phantoms could be annoying as always, but then again if they let their Phantom get near another one of their ships, it could be in for quite the surprise.

I flew the following list twice last night and plan to bring it to a local tournament this weekend:

'Mauler Mithel' w Predator

BSP w Predator x4

Academy Pilot

Spamming buckets of Predator re-roll attacks, while at the same time not having to be locked into flying in close formation, is great fun.

Intimidation is going to make a BSP more than a nuisance... You just found you're mini-biggs Imperials... except you can 2 of em for the cost of a loaded biggs.

I don't know about Ruthless ultra spam... sounds dangerous.

You bought FIVE Tie Defenders?!

I hope you like epic play or those will collect a lot of dust.

Haha, no. Just the two.

My other three cards I picked up as singles. Paid a fortune for them, but hey, not my first wargaming arms race scenario, heh.

You see I can understand why thats possibly essential for your tourny build but i just cant buy in to 'buying in' like that.

I'd just let my opponents colour photocopy the one card. it's for 'personal use' so it's legal.

But then i play narrative friendly games against people i know. I dont enjoy tournament play much.

I totally agree, but that's the rub, you need all your cards for tournament play.

I actually don't mind too much, it's a bit of a control. If you wanna do something crazy, like run 5 Predator cards, you have to be willing to make the sacrifices to make it happen, which will dissuade some (most) people.

And of course the small fear though is that Predator will, over time, lose its potency or appeal. But it's such a great card, easily my favourite right now (picking up a blank and rolling a crit ranks high on the fun factor scale), it's probably got a long life ahead of it.
