"Stay on Target" anyone ?!?!

FFG are teasing us!

And the sky is blue in most parts of the world. Unless you're living in heavily industrialized regions of the world, in which case it's a wonder you can see the sky :D

Well that's a pretty cryptic post, Keith, but I've cracked your little code.

Let's break it down: Heh is actually a clever way to tip us off to the new specializations in the book - dogfigHter, astrogation spEcialst and Helmsman. Also you're telling us the new species, if we follow the way the HAL 900 was named in another famous sci-fi classic, will be Gotal, Devaronians and Gungans. Luckily FFG realized at the last possible moment the fallout from publishing a splat book with Gungans would likely bankrupt the company. And THAT friends is why it was pulled and nobody seems to want to discuss it. Thanks for the inside line Keith. You're one of the good ones.

"Don't even get me started!... Where was I?"

"Gungans."

"Gungans, yes! And since they had to remove Gungans, the only reasonable action would be to replace them with Ewoks!"

FFG are teasing us!

Trolling. The word you're looking for is trolling.

H? Three letters? Half-life 3: confirmed!

Anyone have any thoughts as to what the specs might be? It strikes me that 'Ace' is kinda narrow as careers go; flying stuff, driving stuff, shooting stuff. Possibly a 'co-pilot' like Fringer, focusing on navigation? Maybe something to do with larger ships - would that be too narrow and specialised?

I assume that any 'Gold Leader' type specs would be in Commander anyway.

There's not even much they could port from other careers - I doubt they'd do 'Starfighter Ace' considering it's a Force spec. Maybe something like it, but without the Force elements, to represent a Wedge Antilles type rather than a Han Solo type pilot?

It's a tough one for sure.

Electronic Warfare Officer maybe, computer skills and talents for spoofing things electronically.

Squadron Leader/CAG. Leadership skills and talents that tap into the squad/squadron rules.

Navigator maybe. New things to do with Astrogation.

Flight Engineer. Techie skills that are geared towards use in flight.

It's tough to come up with unique stuff for sure, very narrow career.

I like these, although we already have Squad Leader in Commander and I doubt they'd do something like it in Ace.

As a career, Ace is very focused on the few things it does well. I can't see much else they could do, without treading on the toes of other careers.

Not just specializations, but species and Signature Abilities!

Species are kind of wide open I would think. I'd like to see Zygerrians.

Signature Abilities is tough also, because if the new specs aren't piloting in nature I'm not sure. The first three obviously share a Gunnery aspect, so that may be what one is tied to.

With stay on target being announced officially, I'm waiting for the following books:

They came from behind

Look at the size of that thing!

I can hold it!

You came in that thing?

Got the Smuggle book "Yah? I can imagine quite a bit....."

Okay, now that the official announcement is out...

I was offered a chance to play-test this, and can say that the material was quite a lot of fun. The official announcement covers the specializations and careers, and I honestly think that there's plenty of material in there that will have even the EotE characters eager to add this book into their games. I almost posted this last week, but figured I'd wait for the official word to come out before saying anything.

I really like how FFG is approaching the tests - grabbing folks from the community who have generally been helpful, friendly, and active. Not sure their NDA approach but clearly it is working; lots of this stuff seems to have no leaks prior to announcement.

The advantage to using fans to playtest is that they know if they break NDA, they won't get to do it again. Because they are fans, they really really really want to see stuff early again. I think it mostly polices itself that way.

So anyone have any theories on what new ships we'll be seeing in this?

I'm personally hoping for some dedicated carrier capships (The Quasar Fire and Neutron Star Bulk Cruiser carrier conversions for the Alliance, and Escort Carriers for the Empire.) and some carrier focused warships (Liberator Cruisers for the Alliance, Secutor class Star Destroyers for the Imps, and Venators for both) but some new carriers would be very nice.

Starfighter wise I would love to see T-Wings, R-41s, Cutlass-9s, hyper equipped Z-95s, and Z-95 Trainers for the Alliance, TIE Opressors, Tie Agressors, TIE Phantoms, and I-7 Howlrunners for the Imps, and maybe some of the fighters usually viewed as independent aligned like Novaswords, Razors, and TL-118 Starhammers for the Rigger specialization. And of course all new Starfighter models would be great as well.

It's really refreshing to see FFG engage with its fans and the boards, and to trust the play-testers to 'play nicely' with things like NDA's.

Kudos to everyone who helped write or playtest the new books.

Well, a pity for Maelora that they picked not-so-pretty species again (I also want to see Togruta, for example), but who would have guessed these three? Chadra-Fan, Dressellian, and Xexto - really cool and I can't wait for the artwork (species and otherwise), the teasers look fantastic.

That's pretty much true with any major RPG company.

You break the NDA, say hello to legal troubles as well as kissing any chance to get sneak peaks at new material good bye.

How about "I'd just as soon kiss a wookiee" for the kashyyk source book?
