UPGRADE CARDS NOW SOLD SEPARATELY???

By Explosive Ewok, in X-Wing

I think that's just TC selling them on their own.

They sell a lot of stuff there, I know when I was trying out Monpoc they sold individual models for that game too.

But it's way cool that they're doing that. I may have to look at my collection and see if there's anything I want to pick up from them.

Can't go to link due to work. What does it say?

Yeah, that's just Team Covenant breaking up the expansions. They did singles for a while too for Netrunner.

Stealth device for $7 and Adv Sensors for $5.

Funny that Expose is $3, yet Determination $1.

It's like a "bits" dealer for 40K or other miniatures games. They are just busting out the components of new boxes to sell individually and make more than the mini would sell by itself. Nice if you're willing to pay and don't need/want the ship itself.

It's all about rarity and demand. Things like Stealth Device are harder to get than Determination. Does lead to some questionable pricing, though. I imagine Predators will bring a pretty penny.

Can only get Stealth from the Slave 1 pack, but can get Adv Sensor from E-Wings now.

I couldn't see myself paying more than a buck or two just to get more upgrade cards. I rather pay the full price of the expansion and get ALL the cards it comes with, plus another nice ship.

Yeah, people buy ships then sell the models without the upgrades at a discount (I picked up an interceptor cheaply this way), then try to sell the upgrades. They don't quite get that this isn't MTG and people won't pay $7 for an X-wing upgrade card when they could just buy the ship and have the ship. (Or sell the ship minus that card for pretty much what they paid for it).

Probably TC testing the water. They'll probably give up if it turns out to be as cold as I think it is.

eBay seem to be the better choice, one guy has a huge selection and only charges between $1-2 or 3. Prolly want to do multiples tho to make up for shipping but I can't see shipping being that much since they are so small and light weight.

Well, this will be nice for those that want to buy upgrade cards. Me, I figure I'll paint the extra ship for fun..... once I get through my current mound of gray unpainted minis.

....that's probably going to be a while.

They have good prices on Sensor Jammer. That one's like $10 on eBay.

I question the point of selling the two cloaking mods, though. They only work with one ship, and that ship already gets one of each.

Depends on... I wouldn't spent $7 or even $5 for a card that comes with a small ship. But I'd consider spending $5 on something that comes with one of the Large ships since I have all of those I want.

I got curious, Predator is only $2..... but it's out of stock.

I'm glad that they're offering this service. However, they're still (understandably) pricy/understocked. I'm mostly interested in HLC (I didn't get any with my 2nd hand Lambda) and I don't want to buy a Phantom just to get Tactician.

Now, the fact that they're understocked on some and overpriced on others seems like they're playing conservatively with their inventory, or they haven't gotten their prices at an optimal level for the supply and demand. Admittedly, the latter is hard to do, especially if they're only just getting started with this.

While I understand the 'why' behind what they are doing, and let's face it, someone was going to do it eventually, I am not sure I can get behind the idea myself.

Lets face it, after buying one or two upgrades, you have paid for a full ship. I would rather just have the ship and all the toys that come with them.

But call me old and grumpy, I bought two extra Shuttles just for the Advanced Sensors cards... back in my day, of covered wagons and B&W TV....

I think some people really only want 1 faction, and don't want to have to buy both factions. So this is a way for those players to get upgrades without buying ships that they will never fly.

It's nice but expensive. I'd rather spend $10 kitting out a tournament list than $40 in buying ships I already have or don't want more of. I bet most of those prices will come down as more ships make it into circulation and more cards are doubled/tripled up on in different expansions.

I guess I can see that... From my point of view, I have a huge community box that I have been using to help build the X-Wing community in my area. If some needs to borrow a ship, it is here for them. So buying a ship I may not fly (I'll admit, I do not fly much in the way of Rebels these days) it doesn't bother me as it will help bring someone else into my community.

The other thing that I would actually want are, say, Alphas, Avengers (pilot cards, ship tokens) to go with my 6 Interceptors since Imperial Aces didn't include them. I may never want/need them, but I like having the option and don't want to buy more ship boosters (mostly for storage reasons).

I would pay $7 for a C-3PO card in an instant.

The hobby absolutely needs this to grow....separate sale of cards and ships.

I would agree that I would love to have more Alpha and Avenger Squadron pilot cards! That I could get behind!
