Format Questions

By eric.sita, in UFS Rules Q & A

Hello All,

Just started to recently get into UFS. I have done my homework been reading etc...Looked over the advanced rules and such. I have been searchign forever for a comprehensive spot where I can see formats. I have heard things like "Legacy" and "Block 3" etc. Just wanted to know formats...I normally hate jumping into a new game that is so situated and has many sets because I feel overwhelmed and unable to get into it. What is the block rules and good suggestion for new players?

in this game it goes by the water mark if it has no water mark like this

www.twoheadeddragon.com/ufs/SF03/scans/Rocket_Uppercut.jpg

it is only legal in legacy

then they released cards with this water mark

www.twoheadeddragon.com/ufs/SF05/scans/08.jpg

this was rotated out of standard this year meaning now it is only legal in legacy

last year they released cards with this water mark

www.twoheadeddragon.com/ufs/SF07/scans/079.jpg

this is currently legal in the standard format they will rotate out when they the next base set is relesed(this should be at the begining of next year)

then last is this

www.twoheadeddragon.com/ufs/SCIV01/scans/002.jpg

this is the most resent water mark this will be legal untill the base set 2 years from now is released

and even though it sounds like they do cards never rotate back in

Ok so what are the main formats?

Standard would be the last 2 watermarks?

What is block X?

Thanks for reply.

standard is another name for block x we are currenly in block 3 and last year was block 2

block 1 is legacy, or all unbanned cards watermarks (everything), block 2 starts with 3 pointed shuriken watermarks, block 3 starts with 4 pointed shuriken (the game atm), when block 4 hits its will start with all the cards with 5 pointed shurikens that started in the shadowar/SCIV set

I thought it was:

Block 1: All Cards

Block 2: Current Standard

Block 3: The upcoming "Standard" early.

So Block 2 would be 4 and 5 Shurikens and Block 3 would be 5 and 6 Shurikens.

thats how it is in magic, but thats a diff game as far as im aware.

a true block is a base set and all its expansions, and as far as i know the base sets all start the next watermark, so the set were in is that block 3 is legal and cards in block 4+ are legal when they are released

aslum said:

this was true when there were only 2 blocks of cards :)

numbering the blocks will become a fruitless endeavor eventually, as we will hit 'block 4' next year and it will include 'block 5 cards' in it.

so it's easier to name the formats by name - Legacy (everything legal including out of rotation cards), and Standard (currently legal cards).
