GEN CON Containment Thread

By any2cards, in Star Wars: Armada

Neat, we finally know what Howlrunner looks like. :)

Well, we already did from the computer game. This is an improvement, given the old game's graphics. Still, this is what she looks like in my mind. ;)

(Of course, she has bare arms... don't all TIE pilots...? Oh, wait.)

The opposite, actually.

That does make more sense.

Hey guys here you go!

Hey guys here you go!

On the one hand I thank you for providing the first real substantive information since the initial preview article.

On the other I curse you because I'm at work and can't watch right now!

Hey guys here you go!

So wish I could like something more then once.

Well, I'm not sure there was much doubt about this game in my book, but that demo quashed any there might have been.

Ooh interesting, you have the card for both the VSD I and VSD II.

VSD II is just an upgunned version (blue dice vs black dice) for 10 xtra points.

Even though I have no life, I am unable to make it to Gen Con (Aug 14-17th).

I very much would like to live vicariously through those that are able to make it. So, I, and I suspect many others, would be very appreciative to those that can go, if they would share thoughts, photos, gaming opportunities, etc. within this thread.

Thanks in advance !!!

Star Wars Armada full demo up on You Tube by Team Covenant :P .

Yeah... Most of the way though the video and it looks even better then I had expected.

Really like how you pick which side of the template you use based on where you want to end up.

I absolutely love the sound of the game system, based on the demo. The mechanics seem to be elegant, thematic, and allow for tactical complexity. The models and components are first-rate. I have no problems with the relative scale, personally.

Watching that video just makes me want that game even more. Looks absolutely awesome!! Thanks TC!!! :)

Yeah, 3 x 6 playing area. We are getting a Super Star Destroyer...

Interesting little tidbit...

In the video around 25:50 or so. James said you could test your maneuver before you make it, a pretty big change from X-Wing. But considering how the Armada system works, a good change I think.

Early 2015 is too **** far away. After watching the demo my wallet went into hiding. I can't say I blame the poor lil guy.

My wallet is safe for now as CSI hasn't put up their pre-order yet.

Every year I say "This is going to be the year I go to Gen-Con"!...and then some kind of crap comes up and I miss it. Oh-well, I guess I'll go next year.

What do you want to bet you see a couple of these demo versions up for sale on Flea-Bay next week for 200-300 a pop.

Something cool I noticed. They used the Victory I Destroyer, for 75 pts.

Also, FFG doesn't sell their demo stuff.

Yeah the VSD I is a 10 point cheaper model but with less guns. I'd assume they'll do the same when they do ISD's.

How many times can I watch this, let me count the ways ... .

Two Armada's, sold.

I must be overlooking something, where does the VSD I one have less guns? So far the two seem equal on all accounts, just a ten point difference.

You mean "different guns", surely.

Yeah, the scale does not bother me at all. It's kinda like playing 40k. Every time I set up for deployment and see a 10 man tactical team standing next to a Rhino, I think to myself "in no way are ten guys gonna fit in that thing comfortably". But it never stops me from playing the game.

Yeah, less firepower anyway.

One Armada~ Two Armada~ Three Armada~ sold!

Ah, right. Blacks over blues. That... does change things. A lot.

I wouldn't necessarily say less (otherwise a big-name character like Luke wouldn't get just black dice) just lower range for the maximum firepower.
