Far Horizons in hand, what do you want to know?

To me it feels more like Marshall Dillon from Gunsmoke, which I think is the intent. It's like an old west Marshall, keeping the peace on the edge of the frontier, where he's perhaps the only peacekeeper within a day's ride.
The Marshal's talents really give them a leg up on performing investigations. Potential film characters that might be built with Marshall, or at least partially use it.
Captain Panaka (in addition to bodyguard)
Obi-Wan Kenobi (obviously with new F&D specs. Particularly E2 Obi-Wan and TCW)
The Inspector from TCW (he def works, he acted foolish, which would involve something from Smuggler or politico or performer, but it was particularly how difficult it was to slip the truth past him, his investigation skills were solid.)
Some Bounty Hunters can also work with some marshal, particularly if the campaign involves more social checks to investigate rather than just blasting stuff. Zuckuss comes to mind, along with some force talents.
From the EU there are several characters that come to mind, chief among them Corran Horn, who would have started as a Marshal/Ace and then eventually picked up force powers and crossed over into a jedi class. Many Jedi can actually benefit from Marshal if their primary role is to seek out truth and be arbiters of justice. However, it is a great class for any detective or investigative type character.
However, Marshal was really built to cover a classic western archetype that doesn't take center stage in the Star Wars saga, but clearly belongs there: the small town sheriff.
So I won't be getting my copy for another three weeks. I'm mainly interested in all the vehicles added. So far I've seen:
Transports and Freighters
YT-1200
YT-1750
HWK-290
Capital Ships
Indulgent-class Luxury Starliner
Armos Modular Transport
Is that it? Any starfighters, speeders, or other vehicles?
I like the baton bludgeoning style weapons. The non lethal ranged weapons as well. In regards to the specs I'd probably rate them Entrepreneur, Performer, Marshall, with all of them being pretty good.
Also, a Marshall using Unmatched Expertise could be a lot of fun. Simple difficulty Ranged (Light) checks, anyone?
In the EotE game I signed up for at Gen Con I played a Marshal, his strength definitely lied in his social abilities. If I were to make one myself, I would eventually dip into politico.
Good cop got a lot of use in that game. Most of the other characters were very distrustful of our NPC, and I certainly had to play the role of good cop. It was pretty fun.

I still don't get the point. No Successes to add to damage, no Advantages to cause crits or activate qualities...Also, a Marshall using Unmatched Expertise could be a lot of fun. Simple difficulty Ranged (Light) checks, anyone?
Simple checks can still be rolled.

Why would there be no Successes or Advantages?
If I had a 4 Agility and 2 ranks in Ranged (Light), I'd be rolling 2 Proficiency and 2 Ability dice.
Wouldn't the possibility of success and advantage exist from that dice pool?

However the rules do mention that a "simple task adds no Difficulty dice to the skill check" so it appears that this is another way to murder an entire encounter's worth of Minions, Rivals, and Nemesis.

Adversary would still have an effect and such. It's not like Simple Check means it can't be upgraded--that sentence just means it doesn't add any dice on its own, like Easy adds one and on up.
Not to forget about setback dice also.
An Initiative check is an example of a Simple check, as well.
Recovering Strain post encounter is simple.
Athletics for Dancing, Acrobatics, etc
Not Coordination?
I think the vast majority of campaigns aren't going to want to get into a ton of detail on the performer actually performing. A single Charm check to handle an entire concert is probably enough to cover this for most folks.
However, some campaigns might center around a band (think the Blues Brothers as a campaign, set in Star Wars). In this case, you might want a bit more variety, and more than one check to cover playing a concert while additional stuff goes on in the background with other party members.
Any real athletic activity should probably have a mixture of agility and brawn related movements. I might mix up roll requirements for Athletics, Brawn, Coordination, and Agility for acrobatics and dance. Music might get a mixture of Presence and Discipline with Coordination and Charm. Acting might require Presence mixed with Charm, Deception, and even Coercion, and if that acting includes a stunt or fighting scene, it might require Cooperative (the two combatants are working together, after all) Agility, Brawn, Melee and Brawl. However, when doing cooperative checks in this fashion, you might consider sometimes taking the lower attribute and lower skill rank, as a team in this case might only be as good as its weakest link. By mixing these up, you can potentially have "performance modular encounters" that require a variety of checks to make it through a longer routine as described by the GM.
I can see incorporating one of these sorts of performances once every or every other episode (re, once every 3-5 sessions) for groups that are acting troupes or bands and have performing as a central theme. Generally, this is not going to be for every group with a performer in it, though.
Here's an idea on performing, if someone wants their character to be all about an instrument or acting style or something:
How about a homebrew talent tree, similar to the way Force powers are portrayed. For say 10xp, you can play X and gain a relevant skill (say Charm) as a career skill. 5xp removes a Setback die (like so many talents), 10xp gives you a Boost die to all checks made using X (e.g. Stalker), 15xp more gives you an upgrade ability/downgrade difficulty on the check (e.g. Intimidating), 20xp lets you take 2 strain to decrease difficulty (e.g. Master Doctor).
I feel like the mechanics are already there, just for other, more common skills. these would just have to be tweaked for performance talent instead of professional skill or mystical powers.

The reason I went down the Performer path was because of a convention game I ran years ago under d20. The group was called the Troubled Souls and I really wanted to do a followup scenario (and possibly re-write the old one) using Edge of the Empire as it really lends itself to this type of play.
Thanks to all of those suggestions, I think I will make the actual skill use as per those suggestions, and that the fact that the characters can play those instruments as just background fluff.

Post it here when you're done? Sounds interesting.
It's annoying me that Amazon is still showing this as "Pre-order" with an August 31st release date even though it's been out for weeks though and the 3rd party vendors it's using to distribute it are showing it as in stock on their own sites. Anybody know if I do a pre-order through Amazon of something that's in stock, will it ship sooner?
Alternatively, has anybody ordered this book from an online site and gotten it fairly quickly without getting raked over the coals for shipping costs? If so, which?
Amazon has always had really weird issues with the FFG Star Wars books. No idea why, but I've always been able to get mine quicker through my FLGS or someplace like CoolStuff
Greased Palms lets you spend 50 credits per rank to upgrade your Social Interaction checks. You have to narritivly justify what you're spending the cash on.
Sound Investments grants you credits equal to your rank in the talent x100 at the beginning of each session.
And yeah, Good Cop/Bad Cop seems to just be a rules codification of something that's already well supported.
I have problems with talents like this. It's something any player should just be able to say to me "I'm going to offer some money to persuade them". I should also be able to say "well-disciplined and indoctrinated storm troopers never countenance bribes" when appropriate. I don't like talents that suddenly decide how my setting or characters are.
