Rebel swarm vs. Howl, backstab, Tie Swarm

By jpltanis, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Here is the long waited confrontation that took place in tourney finals in England:

The squads are:

4 x Z-95 Bandit Sqd, 4 x Z-95 Tala Sqd
5 x TIE Academy Pilot, "Back Stabber", "Howlrunner" w/Stealth Device, Swarm Tactics

Don't underestimate the Z95. They don't even have any missles equiped. :)

I haven't watched it yet, but I am not sure you can call 5 Ties a Swarm.

Count the Tie fighters again... There are 7 of them.

I haven't been able to watch it all (I am about half way through and the Z-95's are doing much better)

But I feel like the player with the Z-95's out flew the TIE swarm player.

This is one of the things I like so much about this game. How you play your list is at least as important as the list you bring.

However the PS 2 vs the Academies' PS 1 was a pretty big factor.

Thanks for the video - very enjoyable with the play-by-play. What a nailbiter!

Yea the z-95s have the PS advantage, so the swarm needs to block a lot and make sure they get their full actions and keep Howl alive as long as possible.

Hi. This is the video I recorded at Dark Sphere - didn't realise someone had already posted the link on here - thanks!

Let me have any feedback on the graphics, narration etc. Was fun to do!

Thank you for recording this video. It is very well done.

We have been waiting for this battle between the Z95 swarm and Howl's Tie swarm. Many here do not believe that the Z95 swarm can beat the Howl's Tie swarm. This video showed otherwise.

I had my own doubts about the 8-Z95 build w/o missiles. This is a pleasant surprise.

I am confused. Now, I know I could be wrong, but doesn't there have to be a 12 point difference at least for a winner to be declared?

This was the final round (the last two standing) - winner take it all.

This was round 5 of a Swiss tournament. These two players where the top table (best ranked pair) - so even with the draw and only a +2 dif a winner could be declared.

Being the final table you would have thought that they would take the extra 20 minutes to play the game out though. It's not a Premier game so they can do whatever, but normally the final game is not timed.

In theory in a Swiss tournament, the winner might not come from the top table. They could be from table 2 or 3! Depends on points. So it is still important that all the games are the same length (65minutes in this case). I'm not sure if the FFG organised play defines a set time limit fro games - I've heard tournaments having anywhere from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.

That's true, #3 could get 5 points on a full win and jump past the previous #1 and #2, if, for example, #2 gets a partial victory or a draw in the final round.

Not bad play by play. Not loud and obnoxious enough for us Americans. ;)
