Imperial Interdictor on Vassal

By gabe69velasquez, in X-Wing

Dug this up from my collection, from back when I was making my official Vassal map pack.

It's a screen shot of a Vassal map with a scale 600 meter I mperial Interdictor-class heavy cruiser

with 150 TIE Interceptors next to it. I know there are some who would appreciate seeing it but I didn't want to randomly slap it down in another thread. Probably should update the image I did use for the map pack since the huge ships were released a few months after.

I'll add since some don't get it, this is a screen shot of 150 virtual miniatures on a map/mat in vassal. No cutting and pasting going on there, they all move, individually or as one on the play map/mat.

Click on it to enlarge.

An Interdictor is smaller than a Victory class, right?

I don't understand what this is...like a vassal play mat?

So no one on here plays on Vassal? That's odd.

I expect the people who do are either too busy doing just that or simply don't see this as relevant.

I don't play on Vassal, just haven't had the time to download everything and figure it out.

I like this picture though, I have always really liked the Interdictor class ships. In my RPGs I used to use them to bag Rebels on the run. lol.

In this game Iif I was gonna do a campaign setting it would be one of the most used ships by the Empire, as they would often use 2 or 3 to ambush rebel convoys or transports to weaken them.

Yes.

Victory class 900m to Interdictor's (Immobilizer 418) 600m

I pretty sure I can say it's impossible that I would be the only one to see the beauty of that image. By the way, it takes about 5 whole seconds for all 150 interceptors to make their template move simultaneously.

I really don't see anything impressive here currently. I'm sorry but I don't understand how putting pixels with copy-paste method and then taking a screenshot is impressive. The interdictor is an awesome ship but you have managed to make it look incredibly bland. Is it flyable or is it just background. If it is background then I am afraid that I am even more unimpressed.

If you had actually taken 150 MODELS and a scratch-built interdictor as a gaming table then I would applaud you for your magnificence, but this just strikes as very unimpressive.

I would reference the gaming table with a 3D star destroyer in an epic gaming situation but I can't seem to find it for the life of me.

Vassal is program that lets you connect with other X-wing miniature players online and have a game with anyone around the world that also downloaded the software. They just recently added the current huge ships too. Short answer is yes, it's a map/mat to play on vassal. If I remember correctly that one's a 9 foot by 9 foot map/mat.
This is the 5 feet by 9 feet cut of the trench run map I made,
the full version is 9 feet by 17 feet.
The trench is four X-wings wide.

In my early queries I found this Death Star Rising one was popular. In both 3x3 and 4x4.

One of my personal favorites is this moon base map/mat.
I had to find the right crater and the right moon base to match.
This one is 5x5 for bigger battles.

Interesting seeing the scale between the big vs. small ships. I'd hate to have to maneuver 150 squints. Flip side, I'd really hate to have to stand there while you moved them all. It'd take 6 hours to play a full round.

Off topic: I like your sig, OP. :P

Ha, ha...

I guess that's what formations are for. :P

Sweet! That ship looks amazing!

That is pretty cool, I always liked Interdictors. I need to get on Vassal, I downloaded it and set it up but never used it. I need more free time to play.

Those look good, I've only played vassal with the 3x3 boards, the larger ones seem like they'd get annoying on a laptop screen, too much scrolling. I like the trench run best out of these.

Wrong! i play vassal but i just don't care about playmats on it. to busy with the Gencon threads

Yeah, I've never been a fan of Vassal as a medium. If I'm playing a miniatures game, I want to play with the miniature. If I wanted to play something on the computer, I'll play some Star Craft or something. I'm not a fan of capital ships on my playmats. I actually prefer the blank nebulas/starfields and open dirt fields. I feel like planets, and capital ships, aren't interactive enough, and distract from the focus on the miniatures. If you want to clutter your play space up with images, get interactive pieces.

That said, it's certainly a neat concept, having an interdictor on the board, and I'm sure it took some work to get that many TIE fighters on the board. Maybe I missed it earlier in the thread, but is the interdictor an interactive piece as well? Because that would be very cool.

The interdictor is part of the map/mat. In the official map/mat I put it off to the side.

It wasn't that hard to put 150 TIE interceptors really, the can make a copy of a copy exponentially,

but they are still individual ships, you can move them together by selecting them all,

or give each one their own maneuver.

I should add I can extend my desk-top to a 52 plasma screen and although only 2D it is all life-size.

Also, there are advantages to using automatic range functions and automatic maneuvers.

Three other classics that probably don't get the use they deserve.

3x3 Episode V Hoth orbit - good for a GR75 scenario

3x3 Episode 2 Tatooine - good for a YT-1300 scenario

3x3 Yavin and Yavin 4 - good for a Luke vs Vader battle
