If he's only getting one, make it a big box. Nerekhall is very cool. Labyrinth of Ruin is also very cool, but does not have such good hero classes. The basic 2 OL deck is nice, however.

How could you say that Treasure Hunter isn't such a great class, it's hilarious and quite good at trolling the search deck for the treasure chest and whatever search cards you need/want at the moment?

But yeah, Nerekhall is pretty great over all with the storyline and influence tokens.

Shadows of Nerekhal is easily the "most bang for your buck" expansion. Changelings are a great monster to add to so many quests, the new classes are fun, there's tons of new items.

If you only pick up one, Shadows is the best so far.

If you like the standard campaign though and just want to flesh things out, buy a Hero/Monster pack.

Also buy one liutenant. They are super cheap and balance things out for the overlord a bit better.
