So, i know that Karen Traviss' Legacy of the Force books get a lot hate, but i was wondering if this transferred to RC as well, because although i love them, i don't really know what other people think.
Off topic: Did anyone else like RC?
I liked her first two books, when the commando's were wisecracking killers with interesting quirks. In the later books everyone becomes the same exact character(I make jokes and have a girlfriend because FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY), everyone becomes Darman, and Kal goes from a Merc who stumbles at parenting to the freaking dad from malcom in the middle. And don't get me started on Walon's "character arc".
So... first two books were good I guess?
i liked the first two books a lot as well but i agree alot of individuality seemed to diminish as the series continued. however the series is worth a read to be fair and i was quite happy with the legacy of the force books up until the very end where i feel like they kinda smashed an ending together as quickly as possible

That's true, Kal is a an idiot in my opinion, but i wouldn't say that everyone becomes Darman. As for Vau...i agree with you on that.

Well except for Fi I guess, she turns him into "retard Dar"(literally), and he still has a cookie-cutter ,"I'm a loving, caring girlfriend and don't care about the outside", woman to take care of him. Seriously they all get one at some point, it's annoying. One of them even gets a twi'lek dancer girl but she's the same as the rest, no personality, another gets a "perfect" woman(I'm not joking that's how she's described) and Dar gets the suspiciously mary sue self-insert girl(another one who had personality until the later books).

Okay, yes, i hate Parja and Besany, but Laseema has sort of a personality. And Etain...don't you dare disrespect her. RIP Et'ika.
Some of my all time favorite star wars books.
i enjoyed the RC series, too bad it ended unfinished.

Yes! Finally, someone who likes them. I was starting to think i was the only one.
Republic Commando is an awesome game.
oh wait you mean the books
There's a bit of "my characters are more awesome than everyone else's" syndrome with the Nulls and I can't say I think what Levet does at the end of Order 66 makes sense to me but beyond that they were fairly good reads.
Karen Traviss' Legacy of the Force books get a lot hate
Legacy was a pet character fest (Suddenly entire X-wing cast centre stage! Suddenly Boba Fett centre stage!) but it was a fun read. Fate apparently takes suspension of disbelief and snaps its neck though.

The game is awesome too. And yes, i got the same feeling with the Nulls. In fact, i mostly read them for Darman, Etain, and Kad.
I liked the books (and the game was so awesome that it deserves a sequel), but I get what people are complaining about. Things did get worse as the series continued. To make matters worse, it seemed like everyone who came in contact with perfect Mando culture was instantly absorbed by its awesomeness. Now, I get that Mando culture propagates by adoption and family and all, but Traviss made it seem like it was what everyone wanted to be.
It seemed to be her pet project and she really went overboard with how much she liked it. It was a cool culture (better than the LFL retcon) but it was presented as perfect, which rubbed me the wrong way.
I love RC!!!!

I love RC!!!!
It was voted #1 cola perhaps a decade ago. I don't know by who, but does it really matter? Best!
There were two things I remember most about the Republic Commando books, which I also liked about them. First, the finale of Order 66, which brought me to tears, and was very cathartic. Loved it.
Second is the whole explanation about the Centax/Spaarti clones vs. Kamino clones and the potential to explain why stormtroopers in Episode IV are such terrible shots (while also explaining why Obi-Wan can be justified in saying "only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise"). I thought it was a beautiful explanation, and brought things full circle back to Timothy Zahn's trilogy, but no other authors seemed to pick up on it. What a shame.
Loved the republic commando series. Mandalorians are always awesome
Edited by Winger5Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm RC, the perfect balance between pepsi and coke... just need a moonpie... lol
I really enjoyed the RC series, both the game and books, I wish there had been a sequel and a concluding novel... but we can't have everything , right?
Yeah, I loved that game.
Didn't pay a bit of attention to the books though.
I really enjoyed the books. What was interesting to me from the latter books was how the Republic was treating the clones and their speculations on how the war's end would affect them. A very different point of view than what is expressed anywhere else. No one really addresses the morality of creating a clone army to fight a war.
I really enjoyed the books.
The game was absolutely terrible.

There was supposed too be a concluding novel, but Clone Wars stopped it.

Why? The books are SO epic.
There was a lot that she did in those books to try to cleverly turn the more bizarre plot holes and contradictions of the prequels into interesting mysteries.
She turned some of the clumsiest continuity in the films into something that seemed like a cleverly complicated plot.

Yeah, I know. I've read Traviss's unofficial synopsis of what the plot would have been. But it isn't the same as reading the book.
