Dice Matter

By Ribann, in X-Wing

I prefer the intimidation method myself. If I have dice that roll bad one night, I go home, line them all up, place one of these 'bad dice' in front of the line, blow some smoke on it and smash it with a hammer right there in front of the rest of my dice.

That why they KNOW what happens to bad dice in my house!

Man you must go through a lot of dice. ;P

I remember seeing something about a game store that had a deal. They had a jar filled with the remains of all the dice shattered in the store.

You could put your dice next to it, to intimidate them. They also offered a deal where with each set of dice you bought, you could use their hammer (and I assume safety glasses) to smash yours and add the remains to the jar of failure.

When you are trying to figure which is more important, dice vs skill... well it's a roll of the dice which is gonna matter more.

And it is skill that gets you to those points that allow you to roll. And it is higher skill that grants you more chances at rolls. I feel that these dice threads have to be astroturfing or social experimenting on some base level. There is no other reason that they would keep popping up otherwise. Mind you it is horribly done and there is no clear or unclear reason why they keep happening.

It's also because only the sensational makes headlines. You always remember that day you rolled blanks all day... but you tend to forget the other 4 days you rolled normal... or even well.

WTH I guess I'll chime in. Here is my take on skill vs dice. Skill in the front end of the game is key. Have a bad/good roll your skill keeps you going. Dice have a funny way of being key at the end of a game.

How many time have you out skilled your opponent only to loose in final round due to unlucky rolls.

Far too many times playing Warhammer both Fantasy and 40k have learned that no matter how freaking brilliant a plan is randomness (Dice rolls) will kick you in the teeth when all other odds are for you. Of course skill will allow you to pick up the mess that is left and bring the lads home victorious (If the dice gods favor your courageous attempt to save face that is).

So far.. Never.. its never happen, never seen it happen.

I have had lost close games if that's what you meant. But lost because bad rolls, not really.

But lost because bad rolls, not really.

Same here. I've games where the dice were a big factor, because the other guy was as good at the game as I was. But if I out fly the other guy or he out flies me the dice aren't going to change the outcome.

I like how people are like, "Not this thread again!" then continue to post in the topic and keep the thread alive.

I like how we consistently manage to steer your troll threads towards fruitful discussion, after which you shamelessly attempt to take credit for it, even though it's obvious such conversation is occurring despite your lack of meaningful contribution.

In the most blatant example of dice luck deciding a game...

I had a game on vassal once where we were both down to our last ship each. Both were Krassis, both had HLC and Recon specialist, both had same number of health left.

We ended up playing conga line around the map exchanging shots each turn.

In the end my opponent rolled better than me and won plain and simple.

I'll share a bad/incredible dice story.

Whisper at 1 hull, cloaked, focus. HWK lost it's Ion to a crit, it is on one health. It fires at range three with its one red dice, scores a hit, and my Phantom rolls 5 blank green dice. It was awesome.

Marcksoul so you lost an extremely close game to luck.

A close game is a game that can go either way, it is perfectly fine.

The real issue people are complaining about is that most metas build until everyone is roughly equal, and there are a variety of effective builds, so at the tippy top level of play luck is a deciding factor, along with who made the most mistakes, which still matters more.

I want an ignore button >.<

@Ribann - dice matter as this is a game with randomness - but skill matters a lot more. Sure, I've lost a game or two purely to bad luck on my part and good luck on my opponents part, but they (like their opposite) are the exceptions, not the rule.

Get over it, move on.

I want an ignore button >.<

You can go to your control panel by clicking your name up on top this page. Then click on Edit Profile, there's a spot there to put people on ignore...

Does wonders for threads like these, because it completely hides his posts.

I want an ignore button >.<

Go to your profile, and click the teal "Edit my Profile" button in the upper left. Then click "'Ignore' Preferences" on the left (fourth tab from the top), and enter the name of the person you want to ignore in the box labeled "Add a new user to my list".

I started a thread where fruitful discussion could take place, but all I get is blame for starting a troll thread.

Get your facts straight, bud.

Oh, I must have missed that one. Which thread was it again?

I agree with this topic. Dice do matter.

You can't actually play the game without them.

Well, not unless you get the X-Wing Dice App. Oooh, Dice App. Ignore what I said earlier.

Why would I want to ignore someone who makes me laugh so much?

Also: I think I asked you a question. Were you going to answer it?

Oh, Ribann. You're too cute! I love how you predictably scamper off like a dog with his tail tucked between his legs after you realize that everyone is on to you, and there's no more trolling to be had (which, if I'm not mistaken, is the reason you stopped posting in the other thread and created this one). So don't answer my question, because silence is more telling than any excuse you could possibly make anyways.

See you in a day or two when you think it's safe to pop your head above the bridge again. Cheers!

Wait, why are one legged dogs being picked on?

Alright, now this has become stupid...

Two topics about the same thing is dumb.

Making jabs at each other via the internet is pretty dumb as well...

Using stupid low brow humor and words that are negative and derogatory as well as a bit childish is...

There are not polite words that can describe this third situation.

It's like reading a parody of a troll, because you don't even qualify as such.

Wait... why is Ribann still here? Didn't he already tell us he was done? I'm having déjà vu, again.
