Armada $10 cheaper?

By AdmiralThrawn, in Star Wars: Armada

Well I would much more like it if it was a little cheaper so I hope the 80 dollar version is the actual price.

Sounds much more reasonable.

By my math, $99-$79=$20, but then, I'm a social scientist.

I believe we need an economist for this dilemma

MSRP is simply what FFG believes retailers will offer it for, and is their "suggested" price for it based on their wholesale cost to them. It all depends on the attitude of the retailer in question as to whether they prefer a high volume/low margin or low volume/high margin model for their inventory.

All the small ships in X-Wing come with a $14.95 USD MSRP from FFG and I've seen them in Canada anywhere from $11.95 Cdn to $16.99.

So yes, I'm sure we'll see Armada for sale anywhere from $79 to $119 depending on the retailer, what kind of wholesale price they get and what kind of product turnover they're expecting.

As to the fact that it's their own online store... well, who knows. The product is still listed as "In Development" so they may not have the final price nailed down quite yet. Or their online store manager knows to adjust the price to what the market will bear. Or the online store price is wrong, and will get adjusted to $99 when the product is available to be ordered directly from them.

Welcome to the fun-filled world of retail, where no one has any idea what's actually going on.

Economists are social scientists, you know.

As are linguists, but I don't think they would be of much use to us here.

Unless someone is a cunning linguist, but that's something else entirely.

I think FFG have ninja'd you.

Speaking of which...

My FLGS (www.meeplemart.com) has Armada listed as a "Coming Soon" pre-order title for $74.95 Cdn right now.

That is too bad. With a MSRP of $80 I'd likely have bought into the game fairly early. At $100 MSRP that is seriously unlikely. And yes I know it will be cheaper online but I was hoping to be buying it at a bit under the $80.

I wonder if $100 will be the combined price of the swallows when they are released individually or if the starter has some extra price built in for components. Frankly $50 for a VSD and $25 each for rebel ships seems pricey. I know they look great but that is a hard price tag to swallow.

You think they might have trouble with basic subtraction? You really don't have a high regard for linguists, do you?

Interesting 3 boxes per case of Armada and 6 boxes per case of X-Wing, so Armarda would be approximately twice the depth of an X-Wing or the case is half as deep.

In the FFG store Armada is listed as only around $80: http://store.fantasyflightgames.com/showproducts.cfm?Step=1&FullCat=352

not $99 like here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=270&esem=2

Which do you think is right? (fingers crossed it's only $80)

Following the first link provided, it appears they've revised it to reflect the $99.99 price point from the Armada products page.

Yes I see that now.

Oh well, i'm still gonna buy it anyway

Compared to other space combat miniatures games like Battlefleet Gothic or Firestorm Armada, $50 for a fully-assembled, high-quality prepaint of this size plus multiple cards and other bits is reasonable. I know it seems pricey compared to X-Wing, but that's not really a fair comparison to make. The models are far larger.

I remember paying something like $40 for a Tau battlecruiser when I was playing BFG. Similar price for an Eldar battleship. A little more for an assembled and painted cruiser from Star Wars? I'm okay with that. I'd rather they were cheaper, but who wouldn't?

As for a core set costing $80 instead of $100, it'd mean I'd buy it immediately upon release rather than sometime thereafter. I'm aware that it will have the $100 price tag retail, but let's see what online retailers do.

My local game store will be selling this just a hair over $70. Hard to say no to that.
