I might be only attending the GenCon convention on the 2nd. day this year and I would really love to get a chance to grab a copy of the Force & Destiny beta book as it releases at the con. When Age of Rebellion released did they have it available the first day of the convention and were there copies of it the 2nd. day available as well?
Did they give away any free copies of the beta book during the convention like they did when they first released the beta book for Edge of the Empire?
No free copies of AoR, but I've heard mixed things about availability. Some said they sold out fast, but one (on here), said they still had copies the last day. I just know, online was a nightmare as they didn't get them to stores for like 4 months after the fact. I think you'll be alright as far as the beta is concerned, but the Far Horizons book, if there, will probably be long gone.
That all said, in the previous year, they announced the availability of AoR at the gen-con prior to the con. As they haven't announced anything in relation to F&D, I'm starting to wonder if it will be there at all. We are just assuming. I haven't even seen anything that says it's expected in the next year. They may take a year and concentrate on the two systems before blowing the time period all to hell with jedi characters becoming a dime a dozen. Just a thought, no actual proof either way.
They've said they'll be running F&D demo games at the con so I would assume that means the core book will be available.
Given the concentration of fan, anticipation of the product, and ability to skip the 'middle man', I would think FFG will come loaded for bear.
I was there last few years.
FFG was my first stop and was able to get 30th-ish in line after jogging directly there from the Crush (first day opening).
FFG finally did a little something about the rush by walking around the line with purchase tickets to reserve certain items except AoR and Firefly.
Firefly sold out right before I got there as FFG didn't put a limit so people were walking about with up to 10 copies...
AoR was selling fast but they had product over the entire 4 days; each day had an amount allocated to it.

And besides, I'm just going to buy it anyway, because paper books are so much better than digital PDFs.
Anywho, the book looks nice! Morality seems interesting, but the massive amounts of Force Powers and the complexity of Lightsabers threw me off.

The lightsabers aren't really that complex after reading it through a time or two. The "basic" lightsabers can be found on table 5-7 on page 125. It's a basic weapon with an unmodified Ilum crystal. It starts to get complex when you try to mod them (just like with modding weapons and armour).
And yeah, there are a lot of Force powers…but a small number compared to every other Star Wars RPG that was made, so I'm happy about that!

Does this Beta Book come with a set of Pregen character sheets like the AoR beta did? I saw this pic from the Demo table... but I'm curious what the other character sheets are.

Lightsabers got real crazy in the Beta...
Basically, an EotE or AoR lightsaber is just a basic lightsaber fully modded (you can mod crystals, which I put down to extra enhancements specified to work with the crystal). It even adds up in the math: 9,000 cr for an Ilum crystal, 300 cr for the hilt, and 100 cr for each of the 7 extra mods on the crystal. The only thing off is the amount of HardPoints available, but hey, upgrading a lightsber is tough for your common Smuggler.
You can also get double bladed (Linked 1 but Unwieldy 2, Unwieldy being Cumbersome for Agility), pike (Cumbersome 3, Defensive 1), shoto (Accurate 1, but deals less damage: two less than the crystal normally would, to be precise), and training (stun damage, without Breach or Sunder).
When I get home I'll post the character I was playing.
